Trinity's next superstar

Trinity has only had three players sign Division I scholarships in seven years under coach Bob Beatty but you can mark down another in a few years.

Sophomore linebacker Jordan Whiting showed in the 4-A state final against Ryle that he's a budding superstar for the Rocks. The 6-foot-, 210-pound linebacker has been all over the field.

He's a well-built, speedy linebacker who has a nose for the ball. Oh, and he's a hitter.

4) Kentucky is already among the top choices for 2009 linebacker prospect Jordan Whiting of Trinity HS in Louisville. Whiting is a rare specimen, standing at 6-foot-0 and 220 pounds as a high school junior-to-be. He runs well and has got great hips to play the linebacker spot. UK offered him at there summer camp and doesn't want him to bulk up too much. I'm excited to see how big he gets.

..or that he is one of those kids who has great game speed but has never learned to run a 40?

Which is the case so often amongst underclassmen especially. I never learned how to run a proper 40 until last year at OSU camp. I went from a 4.78 to a 4.5 flat by just using better form, putting the right hand down, etc. So I wouldn't get too fired up about a 40 until you see them in person or on film because it can also work the other way. A guy can be a combine warrior and run a great 40 because they do it so often, but aren't nearly as fast with pads on, which you do happen to wear as you play the game of football. But as far as Whiting goes...I realize it's not PA, but Trinity has been kind to us before

Here are the stats for Jordan Whiting:

Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 220 lbs
Forty: 4.71 secs
Vertical: 27 inches
Bench reps: 30 @ 150 lbs

I am currently working on Southern Cal recruits for RecruitingPlanet.com, and the Trojans already have a verbal commitment from a 2009 OLB prospect by the name of Marquis Simmons. Simmons's stats are listed below:

Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 215 lbs
Forty: 4.69 secs
Shuttle: 4.56 secs
Vertical: 30 inches
Bench reps: 17 @ 150 lbs

So you can see, the height, weight, speed, and vertical numbers are almost identical, and Whiting has the clear edge in strength. Of course, both have are reputed to be excellent football players for kids who have just finished their sophomore years in high school.

The point is, if Simmons has enough athleticism for USC, then Whiting certainly has enough athleticism for OSU.

Good stuff LJB. Thanks.

BTW, I wasn't denying that Whiting wasn't athletic enough for OSU just that his slower 40 time stuck out, but you guys cleared that up for me. Thanks again.

The other thing about Jordan is that he has a 3.87 GPA, and rumor does have it that he does want to be a "BUCKEYE":osu:
