LB John Simon - (2012 B1G DPOY, Super Bowl Champ)

Id say a kid who played Quarterback in Junior High and fullback his freshman year then switching to DL his sophmore year id say he doing pretty good. Only having 3 yrs at a totally different position is amazing he'll be one hell of a DT in years to come...

BN$--Bucknuts TV: John Simon Senior Highlights

My take: The tools are all there...obvious strength, lateral agility, explosiveness. However, they are not always there. The motor was sometimes idling and the hands did not always shoot. However, he has everything he needs to become a force inside at a 3tech.

Grad, does that worry you? That's not the kind of thing you can coach.

Yes it does. I will not be shocked if he is nothing more than average at tOSU but I also would not be shocked to see him become an All-Conference player.

Watch Bellamy and Longo play...both kids also played both ways but that motor is relentless. I didn't see that on this excellent film from Mark Porter ...and this is a highlight film.

(Mark Porter really does present the best highlight films on the net...along with Athlete's Vault)

His frame is similar to Iowa's Mitch King. Both are 6-2 and around 275. He might not be the biggest DT but he is definitely big enough to play.

Mitch King is one mean (and dirty - ask Doug Datish) MoFo. I think Simon is a more skilled DT. If Simon plays with his mind set then OSU will be alright on the D line.

John is showing very well at the AA practices so far. Apparently he is destroying people.

hey, maybe he visited our site, read your evaluation and went out and bought himself some "motor"?!

i don't know the kid; but if he can mirror himself after Abdallah, he will know that nothing is handed to him. He will have to prove himself play after play after play regardless how much potential he has.
(*the reason I said Abdallah is simply because, as i recall correctly, Nader came in as heralded as one of the top defensive talent in his class. but the knock on him was always not playing with a relentless motor or inconsistent play. However, Nader has sure turned himself around the past couple years. I could not be more proud of Nader for his turn around than any other Buckeyes.)

Here is to John to wreck havoc to whomever he plays against for the next 4-5 years! :drunks:

John does read these boards and has mentioned as much in some interviews. He has every physical tool a dominant football player needs...if it all comes together and he stays healthy, look out.
