LB John Kerr (official thread)

Not to get too off topic but,

Nope, I went there briefly in boot camp (oh the fun) in '88. Mount Mother F'ker. Oh how that sucked. After Okinawa for a year, spent the rest in Beaufort. F-18 squadron. YOU?

If he is saying he WILL BE the 5th best LB, well at least you can give him a pass on that, even though I doubt it. If he is saying he IS the 5th best LB - that is just untrue. He doesn't have any stats to back that up or performance to justify it. Basing a remark like that on spring practice and "how he looks" seems a bit short sighted to me.

Nitpicking maybe. I have a feeling he is saying that he IS though.
I hope he turns into the #1 LB and fulfills his prophecy!!!!!! Remember, he was supposed to be the greatest LB to walk through the halls. Remember that video that was out on him doing crazy stuff in a gym, i.e. jumping, running and what not?

Stocks, I got the impression that Spielman picked the LBs on what they WOULD be this season, not what they were before the season. I don't think it was clarified one way or the other, but I didn't hear the entire interview.

I heard someone else mention that Spiels thing. I think he has our proverbial rose colored glasses on. There is no way that a player who hasn't hardly played, much less started, could be the 5th best LB in the big 10. no way. That does a disservice to the other programs players. I couldn't sit here and rattle off 10 LB's who are better - only because I don't know specific names. I just know he is NOT one of the top 5. You could make a good argument that he is not even one of the top 3 LB's here. e.g. hawk, carpenter, shlegel(sp?). thoughts ?

Uh, remember Matt Wilhelm? He was hurt for a lot of his up until his career senior year when he blew it up and had an All-American year and was a cornerstone of that great defense that led us to the national title. That same can be happening for D'Andrea, and what's cool is he's a junior, not a senior. No offense, but I'm going to take the word of one of college football's all-time great linebackers over that of a member of a chat board.

me....two good friends from pendelton....

as to mda...this is a big year for him...there have been alot of great players that didnt rise to stardom immediately....but the junior year was breakout time.....if mda is healthy...i look for a really nice year out of him....

you never know with shoulders though....

No offense taken. I would probably take his word over yours also ;-)

However, while I think he knows more about football than you, I, and everyone on here put together, I have to believe this is more of a "hope" than a fact. Basing things on practice is okay, but then if it held up, Bam Childress would be an All-American!!! and that isn't happening in my lifetime.
Again - I hope he proves all of us doubters wrong.........

Mil,

If I remember correctly, Wilhelm was coming into his own his Jr. and Soph. years at LB. Remember the Wisconsin game where we didn't have him, and the Badgers ran it right up our asses? I believe that was his Jr. year.
Wilhelm wasn't as high on hype coming into his career at OSU, he earned his hype.

The bottom line here is that D'Andrea if he can stay healthy IS as talented as the other guys on the team, his problem is he has been injured most of the time, I hope that we get to see the player we all hoped he could be this year.

I personally think if he stays healthy he will be a huge factor for us this year and break out. The kid has to many physical tools not to dominate.

Just my two cents.....

If Kerr leaves, well....so be it, good luck

Not to tread too heavily into analogies to players from other teams again, BUT: MDA's story reminds me a lot of Kendra at Florida State a few years ago. He had an enormous reputation as an athlete coming in and then bounced around different positions, had some injuries and eventually washed out.

It was pretty much a consensus among the gurus when MDA was recruited that he was an incredible athlete - but not much of a polished linebacker. We were cautioned that it might take a little time. Add an injury to that along with some solid LB depth and it can explain a lot.

I think the most significant statement the coaches have made about MDA is that he did not redshirt. If he were considered a serious project that would have happened.

Any update on him ? I heard on the radio that there were reports out of Columbus that he was dismissed from the team. It didn't sound very promising. Now, mind you it's a bottom of the barrel station that's usually a week late on info. They did say they have to confirm it, but if thatt's the case, then why even report it ?

:oh: :io:

Matt was indeed starting to blossom, but still injuries kept him from really becoming a star. Wilhelm also didn't have to sit behind a senior in his sophomore year like D'Andrea did...we know how Tressel tends to favor his seniors more than did Cooper. By the way, the Wisky game that Dayne went nuts in the second half on us was 1999, Wilhelm's freshman year. You maybe remembering the 2002 game at Damp Cramhole where Wilhelm was sick during the first half (IIRC).

Per today's Cbus Dispatch JT says Kerr "will be with the team and on the roster (in the fall), but will not be for the first game". His absence yesterday was due to a vilaoation of "University policy". Kerr had no comment for the Dispatch.

When I first heard of kerr's interest in transferring to Ohio State i started to think to myself, was it because Ohio state had just won thier National Championship and how many more players would be jumping on the bandwagon. Didn't the same thing spark an interest for Schlegel? Just curios here.

Brutus1:

The rumor I heard was that he was juiced and be suspended accordingly but still could be back on the team in the future. I had heard he was not the only one, but those players are still on the roster, so I am assuming that its just Kerr.
