LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

With the uncertainty regarding Hale, our abundance of top quality LBs recently, and having just watched his film (he is much faster on the field than I thought)... I think he is a very important recruit right now.

I don't know if he's very important but I've always felt he was the type of recruit you take no matter what. The WHAC is already paying dividends.

Hale and Sabino have very little to do with each other. Hale is likely a DE in college and Sabino is likely a MLB.

Sabino still looking at a November commitment

Etienne Sabino of Michael Krop High in Miami continues to weigh scholarship offers from Division I powers such as Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Florida, Miami, North Carolina, Southern Cal, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Sabino, rated the sixth-best linebacker in the nation by Scout.com, said he has plenty of reasons to consider a commitment to Tech.

?I like Tech a lot,? Sabino said. ?I went by and saw the campus [earlier this summer]. I know there?s a lot of opportunity there.?

Sabino said he?s a fan of defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta?s defense.

?I like their attack-style defense and the way they like to blitz,? he said.

Making the transition from Miami to Atlanta would pose little difficulty for Sabino.

?I?m a city kid,? he said. ?I?ve lived in the city all my life. I don?t think it would be much different living in Atlanta.?

By Steve Hare for the ND site...looks to be dropping ND from consideration. Focused on Ohio State, Miami, Florida, Georgia Tech and Tennessee.

This is HUGE news...

I wonder if Charlie Weis telling him he was the only defensive guy left that they were pursuing while at the same time going all out for Arthur Brown and Chauncey Agheyere played into this equation?

Weren't some ND shills saying that he was even a silent commit to them?

More than a few Notre Dame posters predicted(some even claim they had first hand knowledge) that he had committed to them on his visit there before he visited Ohio State.

Notre Dame is basically shocked whenever they don't land a prospect they offer, so I would question how huge this news actually is. Most of the Notre Dame lean stuff came only from Notre Dame.

I know several non-ND insiders who also believed he was destined for South Bend...and what's huge is that OSU was the first school out of his mouth. I never thought we had much of a chance, and I still would handciap this race in Miami's favor but things are looking good so far.

I heard Miami too, but how many linebackers are they going to take? Are some going to be safeties or DEs or something? If they get Sabino, they'd have 6 linebackers I think.

The biggest shocker might be the UNC isn't listed any more. They've been talked about as being leaders longer than Notre Dame.

In this former article, Shurburt had believed him to be a Domer as well (if you call him an insider). Great news and Sabino would be a HUGE get if we could pull it off. Sweat and Sabino would be an unreal LB class but the best thing is that with the loaded '09 LB class, Sabino is a luxury and not a necessity. In fact, I think the reason Klein hasn't committed and perhaps why Whiting hasn't been offered yet is so we don't scare Sabino off but that is just me thinking aloud.

As I understand it there are reasons why Sabino may be an exception, but when a recruit only has one northern school on his list (in this case OSU), the recruit usually doesn't come north. Obviously OSU is putting up a good fight, though, so it will be interesting to watch this one play out.

do you think if Etienne Sabino commits it will affect the number of linebacker we take next year? It would be nice to get even more florida pipelines though

I personally don't think it would change anything...there are players who are OSU worthy and there is everyone else. There are a few LBs in next year's class that I think are OSU-caliber regardless of the depth chart.
