Ohio State players finish Pro Day
Thirteen players from Ohio State's undefeated 2012 season worked out for NFL scouts this morning at OSU's Pro Day, and some Buckeyes appeared to have helped themselves.

There are no "official" statistics kept as each team records its own times.

Linebacker Etienne Sabino tweaked his hamstring at the NFL combine so he decided not to run the 40, but he said he had 30 reps in the 225-pound bench press.

Etienne Sabino, LB (6-2, 244 pounds) — The linebacker could hear his name called at the NFL draft next month. He recorded a 34-inch vertical jump and 4.41 time in the short shuttle.

Etienne Sabino, LB, 6-2, 247, 4.75

Notable: As a fifth-year player, the Florida native emerged as one of the Buckeyes' vital leaders. But he's not a great athlete and doesn't have the instincts to make up for that. Still, he should come off the board sometime after the fifth round.

Ohio State football: Sabino expects to wait during draft, welcomes shot at NFL

Linebacker Etienne Sabino was a valued leader and productive player during Ohio State?s undefeated 2012 season. His draft status is uncertain.
By Bill Rabinowitz
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH THURSDAY APRIL 25, 2013 5

Etienne Sabino is like a lot of Ohio State players in this year?s NFL draft.
He blossomed as a senior, had a season he will cherish forever and has absolutely no idea where he will go in the NFL draft.

A year ago, an NFL career seemed a long shot for Sabino, a five star-recruit who had yet to fulfill that promise. But the linebacker became a valued leader and productive player during Ohio State?s undefeated 2012 season.
Now he is projected as a mid- to late-round selection in the NFL draft, which begins today. Sabino probably will have plenty of company among Buckeyes in that situation.

Defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins is expected to go in the second round. After that, who knows? John Simon and Reid Fragel could go in the third round, and Sabino said he has heard that he?s likely to go from the third to the fifth round.

?It?s a humbling feeling,? he said Tuesday night from his home in Miami. ?It?s kind of surreal. You?ve waited basically all your life for this moment, and to think it?s a couple days away is crazy.?

Even if Sabino isn?t drafted, which seems unlikely but not outside the realm of possibility, he said he will remain upbeat.

?You really don?t know,? Sabino said. ?Whether I get drafted or I don?t, I know I?m going to get an opportunity, and that?s all I can ask for. From everything I?m hearing I will be drafted. As to when and where, I don?t know that. I?m just staying positive and waiting it out.?

The Giants rolled out Spencer Paysinger, Mark Herzlich, and Keith Rivers as their first-team linebackers to begin team drills. They were relieved by Aaron Curry, Dan Connor, and Jacquian Williams, followed by Kyle Bosworth, Etienne Sabino, and Jake Muasau on the third unit. Don?t expect that to be set in stone as the depth chart could change any day, according to Spencer Paysinger. ?So one person has a great day, he might be going with the ones,? he said. ?A person slips up a little bit, he might be going with the twos and threes.?

Giants rookie free-agent LB Etienne Sabino is making noise

Giants free-agent rookie linebacker Etienne Sabino has the coaching staff intrigued (William Perlman/The Star-Ledger)

It pained Giants linebacker coach Jim Herrmann to say it. In the Big Ten, they take the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry to heart. Describing the two schools as mortal enemies is an understatement.

But Hermann had to admit it. He thinks rookie free-agent linebacker Etienne Sabino might be a keeper, even if he played at Ohio State.

?Being a Michigan guy, it?s kind of hard to coach a Buckeye,? Herrmann said smiling, ?but I like him. He?s a good young player. He?s smart. He knows the game and right now I can?t wait until he gets out there and plays against Pittsburgh (in the first preseason game).

?I want to see him in live game action. Always with a rookie guy, you have to find out if the gig?s too big for him. It doesn?t look like it. He?s played in 'The Horseshoe' at Ohio State. It will be fun for me to watch him. I think the other guys in our room are also kind of excited for him.?
