LB Etienne Sabino (official thread)

As I understand it there are reasons why Sabino may be an exception, but when a recruit only has one northern school on his list (in this case OSU), the recruit usually doesn't come north. Obviously OSU is putting up a good fight, though, so it will be interesting to watch this one play out.

True but things appear to be changing. Look at Heyward and Scott last year. Both had schools like Florida and LSU on their list with us being the only northern school. Tressel is really making progress in the south.

I don't know if this means much (and maybe this has been touched on already in this thread) but I just remembered that Sonny Spielman (Chris's dad) was an assistant coach at Krop. Not sure if he is still there but he was a couple of years ago.

I am pretty sure that Sonny met the Krop HC at a Buckeye football camp and they decided to work together.

Sabino seemed to know alot about the Buckeye tradition, especially at LB, and that may be part of the reason.

Just a thought.

This is correct and Sonny is a great guy. I talked to him last year and he does indeed love OSU football. He told me a story that Chris was making decision between OSU and Tsun on signing day, Chris told Sonny he wanted to go to Tsun, and Sonny said " (Expletive), your going to OSU". As it relates to Sabino, he definetly has someone very pro-OSU in his corner...I never noticed Sabino went to Krop.

Sabino still considering Tech; Commings to visit South Carolina

Linebacker Etienne Sabino of Dr. Michael M. Krop High in Miami has visits to national powers Southern Cal and Ohio State scheduled during the upcoming season.
But Sabino, rated as the fifth-best middle linebacker in the nation by Scout.com, said he hasn?t ruled out an offer from Georgia Tech.
?They?re still in the running,? said Sabino, who is also considering scholarship offers from Florida, Miami, North Carolina and Tennessee.
?Georgia Tech plays the type of defense that likes to blitz. That fits my style.?
Sabino plans to be on the sideline for Southern Cal?s season opener against Idaho on Sept. 1. He is also expected to be in attendance when Wisconsin visits Ohio State on Nov 3.

Would it be safe to say the guarenteed visits are his top 3? North Carolina, according to the article, is a relatively new school on the scene for him. Why are they such a supposed big player here?

I don't think the article is very accurate in regards to UNC being a new player for Sabino... I believe UNC was one of the first teams on him...
As far as a top 3, any list without UNC up there is likely incorrect... I think they aren't scheduled for a visit yet because he's been there several times already...

Gator Country ? Football Recruiting ? Gators survive Sabino’s latest cut

In the past four years, Channing Crowder and Brandon Siler have pretty much defined the way middle linebacker should be played for the Florida Gators. Their combination of tough play in the middle and inspired leadership has set a standard for all who will follow at the MIKE position. The job belongs to Brandon Spikes now, but the Gators are already seeking his successor and that's one of the reasons Florida is high on Etienne Sabino's list of favorite schools.

?I know they are in need of a MIKE linebacker because they only have one right now so that is something I am considering,? said the linebacker from Miami Dr. Krop.

In addition to what seems like a favorable depth chart, Sabino also really likes the wining tradition the Gators have. Those two reasons helped Florida survive when Sabino cut his list a couple of weeks ago.

?I have cut my list for the most part right now,? he said. ?Florida is a team I am still considering, but I am also still looking at about seven other schools. They are Ohio State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami, Tennessee, LSU and Southern Cal.?

Etienne enjoyed his visit to USC but ends up praising tOSU and Jim Tressel in the article. He is also considering North Carolina, Georgia Tech, LSU and Tennessee but only has an offical planned to Columbus in November.

I watched the USC/Idaho game and USC did not look good on offense. I was shcoked how well Idaho did on offense. I can see why he was not wowed and how he might of actually been disappointed. USC had starters in the majority of the second half. I think USC's 2007 national championship has been prematurally awarded by the media.
