SAM SPOT IS SABINO'S FOR THE TAKING

COLUMBUS ? There may be some talk of an ongoing battle at the starting strong side linebacker position this fall at Ohio State, but make no mistake about it, the opening is Etienne Sabino's to lose.
All the way through spring and thus far in fall camp, the junior Sabino has been running with the first team at the SAM backer position, a spot vacated by Austin Spitler (who graduated and is now playing for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL).
There are many who see a battle going on between Sabino and fellow junior Andrew Sweat for the opening, but I'm just not seeing it ? even if Sweat is fully recovered from an ACL injury which kept him sidelined during the spring.
No disrespect to Sweat at all, but Sabino is bigger, more athletic, much faster and hits with greater force. In fact, I'll go as far as to say Sabino is the most athletic linebacker the Buckeyes have on the roster ... and have had for some time.
The only thing Sabino lacks is minutes, but that's definitely going to change in 2010.
"It's exciting," Sabino said of being the possible starter at the SAM spot. "This is what you come here for. You don't come here to sit on the bench, you come here to play because Ohio State is a place where you want to (start). So I'm excited to know that that's a possibility. I just need to keep working and make sure I do that."

Think I will agree with one of those... maybe for another, and nope not the case with another...
So I guess any athlete can play LB, what about being in position, making the right reads, making the right calls for the other LB's, guess that is not important...
Thumbs down for that rag of an article...
Here is to Sabino having a great year along with Sweat and making this defesne one for the ages!

Keep in mind that he nearly beat Nebraska single handedly that year... (Or did, but Nebraska had an extra single foot, if I'm remembering the right game/year.)
At any rate... Jones was a good player and Katzenmoyer effective ended the Missouri resistance in that game in one hit.

Mentally, I think Sabino is very capable. He comes across as intelligent, articulate and sharp in every interview. He has shown on-the-field smarts from time to time. I expect that the problem heretofore is completely explained by what his teammate Rolle calls his desire to be "perfect".
When 'Bino made mistakes or played a step slow because of a lack of experience, he let it get to him. He is plent smart, he just needed to get control of his emotions and learn to play with confidence through the mistakes. Every indication is that he has started to do just that.
With the psychological issues behind him, I expect that his combination of intelligence and athleticism is going to make him an absolute terror for opposing offenses.
