LB Dorian Bell (transfer to Duquesne)

I'm not up on Bell's status before this incident. Was he a redshirt? Just curious if the suspended year can count as a redshirt since he didn't play. Just curious becaus Marcus Hall is in a similiar situation as far as eligibility. He missed a year but not due to an official "redshirt"

[strike]He's a redshirt sophomore, meaning he's in his third of five years of eligibility...he has used his redshirt. His being suspended for the upcoming season burns his fourth season. Thus, he will have the 2012 season as his fifth and final year of eligibility.[/strike]

EDIT: He was in the 2009 recuiting class, so the 2011 season would be his third year of eligibility. He has already used his redshirt. He will have the 2012 and 2013 seasons as his fourth and fifth years of eligibility (the max).

No, but he'd have to transfer to I-AA to be eligible in 2011.

This is why it's very dangerous to report transfer rumors publicly. Santonio Holmes wanted to transfer many different times, as have many other players.

If he does indeed transfer, does he still need to serve the season suspension that was imposed by tOSU (and not NCAA)?

No. Marcel Frost pulled this stunt in 2006 and toiled in obscurity in Jackson State as a result.

Gene Clifford did the same thing and had a somewhat better career to say the least.

I have first hand knowledge of SUPERSTAR RECRUIT - Jason Gwaltney... who is in total obscurity playing at Kean University in Jersey... It was a 'toss up' who the best HS back in the country was... Gwaltney or Beanie... you can still follow them both.. one plays on Saturdays in northern Jersey... the other on Sundays

I gotta stop... Bell is so immensely talented... I'm gonna scream.. why can't Rolle reach out to this kid

Dorian Bell will not be a Panther

** Former Gateway standout Dorian Bell may indeed leave Ohio State, but there is absolutely zero chance he will end up at Pitt. I was told tonight by several sources that Pitt coach Todd Graham will not even consider taking Bell, who is suspended for next season for unspecified rules violations, or any player who has been in trouble elsewhere. So that should put an end to any speculation about Bell coming to Pitt.
