LB Dorian Bell (transfer to Duquesne)

Not only was he there, but he was on the sideline with the players during the game which is odd if he was just a guest.

Nate Montana was a walk-on at Notre Dame though. I don't know the rule, but I would be shocked if he could transfer back. There's not only the NCAA hurdle, but also the academic hurdle and the history of rules violations.

I still wouldn't be mad if he came back.

Nate Montana did it. You just use up a year of eligibility.

Bell:
2009 - redshirt
2010 - OSU
2011 - Duquesne
2012 - eligible to play immediately
2013 - eligible

Just sayin': He was suspended by Ohio State for the entire 2011 season for a 3rd violation of "team rules". He never did the year suspension. My guess is that if he came back to Ohio State (which he won't) he would not be allowed to play in 2012.

In theory the years suspension was spent at another school.

Bell caught some suspension from the NCAA because he didn't suit up until October.

I'm wondering if the concussions got to him and he retired. I know he played last year -- so did chad hagan who just took a medical waiver.

Or db could just be visiting his man Corey 'black' brown.

He played at that other school in 2011, he didn't serve the suspension.

Right...he was not suspended by the NCAA, but rather by Tress for violating team rules.

Can't help but wonder whether him being on the sidelines means anything...

Yes, it was an Ohio State suspension (not a NCAA suspension) and Tressel is no longer the coach; however,

1) Gene Smith is still there and my guess is that he would still mandate the suspension.

2) Urban has recently been critized by the Sporting News as having had numerous players at Florida with the same problem that Bell had. My guess here too is that to avoid any perception of the Ohio State program being "out of control" he would also go along with the suspension.

Just to play devil's advocate;

1) It's Gene Smith. Nothing exactly consistent to base that on.

2) Jordan Hall had those same issues. He's not in the dog house. And who's to say those "issues" aren't taken care of now?

I'm not saying he'll be back, but him being on the SIDELINE isn't a small thing, IMO.
