LB Cody Sim0n (Official Thread)

Is it too early to say that the Buckeyes’ strength & conditioning program doesn’t suck?

As a high school recruit in 2020: 6' 1" 218 lbs
Good frame with length. Can hold 10 more pounds easily. Athletic and quick. Ran a 4.53 in 40. Changes direction well and is physical. Highly productive player who excelled against best teams. Accelerates to top speed in few steps. Has shown plus body control. Sound tackler. Diagnoses plays well. Has good closing speed. Plays well in traffic. Can disengage. Good in coverage depth. Needs to show he can cover running back out of backfield. Increasing upper body flexibility important. Multi-year starter at high-level program. Day Two NFL draft pick.

Last defensive play of first 1/2 he went down. Looked like arm/shoulder issue.

TV cut away quickly.

Didn’t play in 2nd half to Diddy’s knowledge.
Please tell me it was because of our lead.

If it is significant we may have to move Teague to LB or beg Gant/Pope back.

The strongest candidate to challenge them for a starting spot over the next few weeks might be Simon, who started 10 games for the Buckeyes last season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery prior to the Rose Bowl. Because that surgery sidelined Simon during spring practices, however, Knowles says Simon is still progressing to where he needs to be.

“Cody has great football acumen, great football intelligence. He's tough,” Knowles said. “He didn’t play as much or as full-go as he would have liked to been in the spring. So all I'm seeing with Cody now are just some issues in timing. Timing is so important when you're making tackles, just him kind of getting the rust off. But I really like what I've seen so far.”

Just another bullet in the chamber for the Silver Bullets. There's so much freaking talent on this defense. The fact that he's a backup speaks volumes!

If had 3 LBs on the field more often, I don't think Cody would come off very much. Still getting a ton of PT and making the most of it, he will likely take over as the guy next year in Tommy's spot I would imagine.

He could be utilized in schemes we haven't seen yet.

I think Knowles has alluded to such early on in the season, that only a fraction of his defense has been installed. I believe he's been adding wrinkles as the season progresses, but we may not see the full extent of his defense until next year.. which has to be frightening for OCs

We may not see it all until next year, but I bet we see something designed for a particular run heavy squad visiting from up north.
