CODY SIMON, LB
The highest-ranked recruit among Ohio State’s summer enrollees, Simon arrives in Columbus as the No. 74 overall prospect, No. 4 linebacker and No. 1 player from the state of New Jersey in the class of 2020.

Athletic with a well-rounded skill set for a linebacker out of high school, Simon will have to wait his turn behind seven upperclassman linebackers but should be a candidate to push for an immediate role on special teams. In a couple of years, Simon projects as Ohio State’s potential weakside linebacker of the future.

Seems to be pretty similar to Ryan Shazier. Could find time fast with just in injury or two to the deep linebacking unit. Should be a force in a few years after the junior linebackers leave

I think he's more game ready than Shazier coming out of HS, both physically and mental understanding of the game, but maybe not as high of a ceiling. I actually would liken Simon more to Marcus Freeman coming out of HS. Either way, agreed that Simon can step in play this year if needed.

Shazier was like 190 when he showed up lol...

Definitely physically more ready even though not nearly as explosive.

LB Cody Simon
Cody Simon was a tackling machine at St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey, nearing 100 tackles in each of his last two seasons of high school. The quick, physical defender showed good range and explosiveness from his linebacker spot in high school. Oh, and he returned punts during his high school career. He’s going to be an athletic option for the Buckeyes in the future in an outside role. But while the logjam persists at linebacker, Simon could find a good home on multiple special teams units to gain valuable experience moving forward.

9. LB Cody Simon

The Buckeyes don’t have a great need for this freshman linebacker to step up this season. And it is a little tougher for Cody Simon since he was not an early enrollee. But I have heard good things in regards to him eventually being a very good linebacker for the Buckeyes. I would not rule out him getting on the field a bit this season and he is definitely a special teams candidate this season.

Cody Simon making push for early playing time

Ohio State’s freshmen linebackers are already turning heads.

Last week, Buckeyes newcomer Mitchell Melton lost his black stripe. And this week, four-star linebacker Cody Simon shed his black stripe, a signal that he’s making progress and is now an official member of the football program.

While they’re part of a deep, veteran unit, it’ll be hard for them to find time on the field. But the linebacker position seems to be in good hands for years to come with Melton and Simon.

“Both unbelievable players and great athletes,” Ohio State senior linebacker and captain Tuf Borland said. “The most impressive part about what they’re doing is how fast they’ve picked up on our defense. A lot of times, guys flash as freshman unknowingly. They make plays but they don’t really see the big picture and really know why they’re doing what they’re doing. With Cody and Mitch, they can sit back in the classroom and really answer every question, so that’s just a testament to the great job that they’re doing.”

Maybe Cody Simon will flash early and earn playing time at the beginning of his Ohio State career. He and Mitchell Melton are already showing impressive traits early on in their Buckeyes career.
