I agree with everything on this thread, what a great kid and Buckeye. The good news if you can call it that is a broke fibula is not nearly as severe as a Broken Tibula. The Fibula only supports like 10-20% of the weight in the leg and is moslty just a support. He could easily be ready for the bowl game IMO.
I'm sure alot of the ex-Bucknut guys here remember Bobby's recruitment during his senior season and how it was reported on quite often by his High School teammate "craigcorner." I'll never forget criag's account of Bobby on signing day, how psyched he was, as well as how pissed he was that Richard Washington backed out of his LOI.
This kid has obviously been an "internet favorite" for the past 4 years, one of the "top-4" favorites along with Hawk, Kudla, and Mangold. What I mean by this is that you've probably never seen a nasty word written about any of these kids since they've been here.
Bobby has represented himself and his Universirty perfectly. He is a textbook example of what a true 'student-athlete" is all about. I have very mixed feelings about the Bowl Game. Of course, as a fan I want to see him play one more time. But realistically, this looks like an injury that could cause alot of future problems for him if it isn't allowed to heal properly. Bobby might think otherwise, but he owes nothing more to TOSU. He has already given IT and US all that could ever be expected out of another human being. Now, it's time for him go get his, meaning a nice big chunk of change in the NFL. Get healthy Bobby, and go make your money. You sure as hell deserve it! Just your presence on the sidelines makes this team better. ( PS, now go get a haircut.)
so what was the final word on his diagnosis? broken fibula? i think he will be back. i expect a massive game out of him if he does. i remember my senior year spraining my ankle in a scrimmage before season and it was the 3rd time on that ankle. i had to sit the sidelines and watch the scrimmage and wonder if i would miss out on my senior season after spraining it for the 3rd time and after the scrimmage was over i remember going on the field to celebrate and they were all jumping as a team and i couldnt. that was devestating to my mind. luckily for me i went through a lot of therapy and made it my job to recover and strengthen the ligaments and something i thought would end my season was playable after missing only one game but in that time in between i did everything i could to get better and make the team better knowing how easily it can be lost. ironically i had added adrenaline and motivation to play harder and even with the ankle still mostly sprained it was one of my better games of the year under the circumstances. im completely sure carp was feeling the same way and even more so. if he comes back for the bowl game i expect a massive game out of him. im calling it right now
Carp is a player...he's always done a hell of a job getting the team and the fans fired up and he's been a leader since HS, he's going to have a helluva good career in the NFL just like his dad...then he'll hopefully follow his dad and coach at Lancaster (he has said this is a long term goal in an interview...) and keep our program going strong
Also, I don't know if it is true or not, but my dad claims Carp was in on the 1st tackle (on the kickoff) to open up our National Championship season :)...great way to start off a Buckeye career
Bobby Carpenter is awesome- he gives everything he has every game, and does it for the betterment of the team instead of his own personal glory (which he deserves). I really felt for him when he went down, and then to see how upset he was on the sidelines was heartbreaking. But, he came back to be there, in uniform (hell, I think he even had his helmet with him) to cheer on his teammates and be a part of this game. And make no mistake, he was a part of this game, on the field or not.
Carpenter is a true Buckeye. We'll be talking about his passion, character and talent for many years to come.
Good luck for a quick recovery and a nice, well-deserved spot in the NFL.
I just hope the injury doesn't cost him much money in next year's draft. With his combination of size and speed I thought he could sneak into the 1st round. Hopefully he won't slip any further than the 2nd. What a warrior.
IMO Carp getting hurt was the second worst thing that could've happened to us on defense (first being AJ going down). That being said I felt horrible for Bobby. I'm glad we got it done for him but I don't think that can substitute for him missing his last scUM game. Now moving on to the future. I personally don't think he will be back. Even if it is his fibula and not his tibula it's still a bone in his leg. I'm sure everyone on here is an expert orthopedic surgeon but the fact remains...he will be in a cast not moving at all for MINIMUM four weeks. That's best case scenario. And in those four weeks his muscles will begin to atrophy. He will need at least a couple weeks to rehab in order to get his strength back to run on it. I would love for him to be ready. But honestly I don't think he will. Nor do I want him to ruin his career. Plus we've proven we can win without him, and I'm confident we can again. Either way here's to Carp and the rest of our Buckeyes as they get ready for their next BCS win.
