LB Anthony Schlegel (Boar Hunter)

It doesn't matter whether others have been slammed. There's no uniform code for treatment of unruly spectators. Also, it is isolated to Schlegal in the sense that he (as opposed to some other slammers) had the guy stopped and under control and could have secured him for the few seconds before security arrived to take the guy off. Instead he slammed him to the turf by his neck. I thought it was great theater and no one likes delivering a good high tackle more than I do. That said, under the circumstances, it was unnecessary and fortunately didn't hurt the guy. Had he been severely injured it would be on the University. If he cocks up some bogus claim, then he's even more of a douche but Schlegal helped make that possible.

I hope the kid doesn't pull some bogus lawsuit. You are right though that if the 1% chance of a terrible thing had happened to the kid, he and his lawyers could have really gone balls deep on Schlegel and the university.

Even after the "Event staff" guy was leading the guy away, Schlegel tries to get a last push in on the kid. He was definitely a little hopped up. Definitely not worth anything legal, but I think Anthony should just leave it to the personnel whose job it is to take care of guys like that.

I saw that. Video cuts out, but it looks like he does try to throw him out of bounds at the very end. Probably looking for the turnbuckle.

He handed him off to security. Was he escorting him roughly? Absolutely.

Here's the video that I'm talking about, and he does try to get one last throw by the neck in when they reach the sideline. Look, I have no problem with the kid being tackled. He made a decision to run onto the field and got what he deserved. OTOH, Schlegel took his dial to 11 as hard as he could and even made a point of running the kid off the field by the neck. He has the kid subdued and security is only a fraction of a second away, yet he made the decision to not only subdue him, to not only throw him to the ground but to body slam him as hard as he could. Had the kid been seriously injured (whatever you think of the merits), it could have ended very badly for Schlegel. That whole decisions, actions and consequences thing.

As I've said, I don't want Schlegel reprimanded or punished or anything whatsoever, and the best thing the kid can do is take his punishment and move on. It could have ended differently though.

The problem is that he ran through the formation as the ball was being put into play. There was a chance of injury to a player that didn't see or expect him on the field at the time. The response by the coach could have been exacerbated by this.

Kid has an opportunity here. Sack up, publicly apologize and end with Go Bucks! Suddenly, you're a rock star getting free drinks and tail. Or he could go the douchebag pariah route...

From 11 Warriors:

Idiot on the Field Enters No Guilty Plea, Demands Jury Trial

We last saw Anthony Wunder invading Ohio Stadium's field and getting dumped by strength coach Anthony Schlegel. (He was subsequently charged with criminal trespassing and immediately sent to the clink until Sunday, when his $79 bail was posted.)

Wunder is a senior mechanical engineering major and an Evans Scholar, a scholarship given to former caddies by the affluent Western Golf Association. As such, he has a bit to lose. (These are not the things you're thinking about when drinking lukewarm alcohol out of plastic bladder nestled up against your crotch.)

Wunder, despite the damning evidence against him, isn't going down without a fight. The 21-year-old was due in court today, but local criminal defense attorney Mark C. Collins, on his client's behalf, entered a 'Not Guilty' plea and a "demand" for a jury trial.

Collins is the same lawyer who represented former tight end Jake Stoneburner and former offensive lineman Jack Mewhort when the duo was pinched in Dublin for urinating in public.

Despite the flagrancy of the violation, criminal trespassing is "only" a fourth-degree misdemeanor publishable by a maximum 30 days in jail. While the retention of Collins all but ensures Wunder won't see another day in jail, the criminal defense lawyer's play is obvious: push the date back and make this case more trouble than it's worth to city prosecutors.

It'll be interesting to see if the prosecutors are willing to "play ball".

I'm guessing here that they will drop the charges as long as he agrees to not counter sue. If the prosecutor doesn't "play ball" his next step will be to visit an orthopedic doctor (or chiropractor) and claim a back injury.

Note: There are doctors out there that will substantiate any patients claim of injury (like severe pain in back from body slam) and back injuries are pretty much impossible to disprove.
