I was going to watch this one night on Netflix, but as always I read up on it first to see if it would be something I would like. What I read did not really catch my interest, and I believe the stuff I read said it was a Blair Witch type of hoax portrayed to be real.

Get the Blair Witch analogy out of your head. It's not a horror bit in any way. It's more of a commentary on how some lonely people use the internet to live vicariously through fantasy versions of themselves.

The Rum Diaries was pretty good, I think you'll like it.

Good to hear. I'm sure the critics were harsh on Fear and Loathing back in the day, so it doesn't surprise me that they are hating on this one. I can't wait to see it, but I'm waiting until it comes to our theater so I can see it for free.

It's not anything like Fear and Loathing. It starts out looking like it could go that way but then as the story develops it backs off.

I really enjoyed it, as I think most HST fans will.

I'd like to hear about The Rum Diary from NFBuck or anyone else who has read the novel. I've heard that it's pretty unfaithful to the book.
Eh, I wouldn't say it was horribly unfaithful. The basic narrative is there, there were some omissions and some bits added to make it more adaptable to the screen, as is typically the case. You could still very much tell it was "from the mind of Hunter S. Thompson". Plus it helps that I just really enjoy watching Johnny Depp channel HST in any form.

Thumbs up from me, but it's definitely not for everyone.

Was a holiday weekend after all so...

The original Halloween (1978): Still possibly the greatest of all time, and certainly never gets old. I watch it every year.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence): OK, so I finally tried out the first one before deciding whether to watch the second. As far as gore and filth goes, this was actually pretty tame, I don't see what all the fuss was about, it was mostly off screen. The concept was "ewww" enough I guess, and not a terrible premise, but the sheer horror of the acting made this possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The girls were cute enough, and the dude who played the Mad Doctor looked the part, but their acting was so deplorable (and the cops were even worse) that it was all a total waste. The horrible dialogue attributed to the Japanese guy should have gotten the screen writers fired as well.

Captivity: This was on IFC, so I checked it out, being a Lionsgate release. People have said this was the worst movie ever made, but I didn't think it was quite that bad...it was bad, but it had a few decent moments hidden within. Elisha Cuthbert is pretty hot, so she was believable as a model. The twists were pretty cliche', and the ending was terrible (the alternate was better) but I think it would have been received more favorably had the whole Hostel craze not been played out by then.
