St. Thomas Aquinas' Lamarcus Joyner. (Jim Rassol, Sun Sentinel / August 7, 2009)

RANK: 1

HIGH SCHOOL/CLASS: St. Thomas Aquinas, senior

HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5-8, 165

POSITION: Cornerback

VARSITY EXPERIENCE: Four years

40 TIME: 4.34 (timed as a sophomore, last time he was officially timed)

BEST MOMENT OF '08 SEASON: Despite nursing a high-ankle sprain during the playoffs, Joyner lobbied to his Miami Killian coach to let him play during the team's matchup verse Palmetto.

"Coach just asked me if I was sure I could go, and when I told him yes he just said: 'Go do it then'," said Joyner.

The Cougars downed Palmetto 27-6 to keep their title hopes alive, and Joyner made a highlight play of his own by running down Palmetto's star running back and Ohio State signee Jaamal Berry from behind (it is rumored that he is the only player to ever run Berry down from behind during Berry's entire high school career)

WHAT I DO TO STAY IN SHAPE: "I have a big field in my backyard, so I just work out there," said Joyner. "I run as if I'm being drilled by a coach so I can keep pushing myself harder."

WHAT I DO TO HAVE FUN: Joyner admits he doesn't go out a lot, choosing instead to stay home and help his mother around the house. He reads a lot and watches a lot of football tapes, and the rest of the time he mostly spends with a few select friends just relaxing in his front yard.

INTERESTED COLLEGES: Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, USC and Miami.

MISC.: Ranked the #2 cornerback by Rivals.com... he is also ranked #10 overall by Rivals.com, although he doesn't put much stock in such rankings. He chose not to attend any football camps this summer, and knows this is the main reason why he has slipped in most online rankings. "I don't pay attention to those things," says Joyner. "When the season starts they'll see how I've improved."

QUOTE ABOUT PLAYING FOOTBALL: "When you do something you love, it's not work. Playing football has helped me learn how to focus, how to be mentally strong. It has kept me out of trouble. God is the only thing that comes before football for me."

A lot of top corner prospects still available in the 2010 class. - ESPN
Top prospects

Lamarcus Joyner
(Miami/Saint Thomas Aquinas)
College: Undecided
He is as competitive and confident as they come, and for good reason. The Under Armour All-American has great play speed, acceleration, recovery burst and is a complete ball hawk to the football. In fact, he could be a future safety. He definitely lacks some size, but he masks it well with his great explosiveness, athleticism and pure savviness on the football field.

i believe they cut back on how many games they play in the herbstreit classic

Yeah, and if I do remember they have cut out the Cincinnati portion of the classic. The games will be played in Dayton, Canton and I think Columbus.
