TV: Big Ten Network.
Notable: Ohio State's Big Ten season gets off to a fast start, as the Buckeyes (9-2) and Spartans (8-5) were picked first and second, respectively, in the preseason media poll. . . . This is the only time the teams will meet during the regular season. . . . The Spartans, though, have struggled at times and are coming off consecutive losses to Hartford and to Minnesota in their Big Ten opener on Friday. Allyssa DeHaan, a 6-9 sophomore, leads Michigan State with 15.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and should provide an intriguing matchup for 6-4 OSU freshman Jantel Lavender, who leads the Buckeyes with 17.4 points and 10 rebounds per game.

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- With 15 seconds remaining, a meaningless shot caromed off the Michigan State backboard and just beyond the outstretched fingertips of leaping Ohio State freshman center Jantel Lavender.
Mia Johnson scooped up the 22nd offensive rebound for the Spartans and put a fitting end to a 60-53 loss by the 17th-ranked Buckeyes yesterday in the Breslin Center.
As auspicious starts to the Big Ten women's basketball season go, this effort won't be pasted in any Ohio State scrapbook. The Buckeyes (9-3, 0-1) reaped what they sowed with 20 turnovers, many of which were unforced, and a daylong inability to limit the Spartans (9-5, 1-1) to one shot.
"I just think they outworked us," OSU coach Jim Foster said. "Their guards' rebound totals determined the game."
Johnson, Brittney Thomas and Cetera Washington combined for 22 rebounds, 12 on offense.

Michigan State's women's basketball team rebounded from its worst loss this season by treating every rebound like a treasure.
The Spartans stunned No. 17 Ohio State, 60-53, Sunday at East Lansing, Mich., and had a 44-35 edge on the boards, including a season-high 22 offensive rebounds - 15 more than they managed in Friday's loss at home to Minnesota.
"We were disappointed that we didn't compete in the last game," Michigan State coach Suzy Merchant said. "We were like five individuals out there. So we talked about playing as a team and competing as a team.

Ohio State eager to fix problems vs. Michigan

Even as the Buckeyes fell behind by 13 points midway through the second half, the possibility of losing Sunday to the Michigan State women's basketball team didn't occur to Ohio State guard Ashlee Trebilcock. "When we cut it down (to four points), I thought, OK, we're going on a run," Trebilcock said. "We didn't play a very good game but we're going to pull it out at the end. It just didn't happen."
Turnovers and 22 offensive rebounds by the Spartans doomed the 21st-ranked Buckeyes (9-3, 0-1) to a 60-53 defeat. The outcome left a stale taste in the mouth of the three-time defending conference champions.

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Jantel Lavender scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the 21st-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 66-42.

Ashlee Trebilcock added 13 points for Ohio State (10-3, 1-1 Big Ten), which has now won five of its last six contests.

Freshman center Jantel Lav ender scored 14 points and had a game- high 12 rebounds to lead No. 21 Ohio State to a 66-42 women's college baskeball win over Michigan on Thursday night in Columbus.
It was Lavender's fifth double double of the season.
The Buckeyes (10-3, 1-1 Big Ten) rebounded from Sunday's loss at Michigan State by going on a 16-5 run to open the second half, pushing their lead over the Wolverines to 28 points with 11 minutes remaining.

The moment finally arrived for Tamarah Riley last night in Value City Arena, and the Ohio State senior forward calmly accepted it for what it was: a chance to play a larger role than usual in a 66-42 victory over the Michigan women's basketball team. Starting in place of junior Star Allen, whose immediate future with the team hinges on the outcome of a meeting today about academics, Riley posted the first double-double of her career and sparked the 21st-ranked Buckeyes (10-3, 1-1).
"Of course, I'm grateful for my opportunity," said Riley, who finished with 12 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. "Yeah, you've got to be ready for an opportunity. With the minutes I get, I'm going to go ahead and play my hardest and try to contribute as much as I can to the team."

Yep! We got to go to the game last night...you could definitely see some players who had taken the hustle and rebounding to a new level from the last game. Riley was the most obvious one, but there were others cutting in for rebounds among multiple wolverine players.

Also, thanks to Block O, because "Just Like Football" never gets old, no matter what sport you're watching. :lol:

OSU women lose starter to academic problems

COLUMBUS (AP) ? No. 21 Ohio State will not have junior forward Star Allen for the rest of the season after she was declared academically ineligible on Friday, coach Jim Foster said.

Allen, a starting forward for the three-time defending Big Ten champion Buckeyes, was a preseason All-Big Ten selection and a second-team all-conference choice a year ago. She started 10 of the Buckeyes? 12 games this season while averaging 8.6 points and 7.1 rebounds a game.

?In this case Star didn?t take care of her business,? Foster said. ?She?s a very bright and a very intelligent kid, but she should not be in this situation.?

Allen led the Buckeyes in field-goal percentage last year while setting a conference record for accuracy in Big Ten games by hitting 84 of 121 shots (.694).

She did not play in Thursday night?s 66-42 victory over Michigan, with Tamarah Riley starting in her place. The Buckeyes (10-3, 1-1 Big Ten) play at Iowa on Sunday afternoon.

?We sort of run our program on the basis that someone?s misfortune is someone else?s opportunity,? Foster said. ?Last night Tam Riley had the first double-double of her college career and Andrea Walker got her most significant minutes of the season. Their reaction was that this is their opportunity.?
