Whew, we stole one tonight...led for all of 15 seconds in the second half, but fortunately one of them was when the clock struck zero. Two huge three pointers in the last minute or so, after we couldn't hit anything all game.

Also a nice strategy by Coach Foster at the end on defense - we only had one team foul, so we continually fouled them a couple seconds after each inbound, and bled the clock all the way down to 2 seconds before we ran out of fouls to give. A nice trap in the corner, and that was it.

Good thing they were leading rather than trailing with only 1 foul, eh?

WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Unlikely hero caps Bucks' comeback

Friday, January 18, 2008Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- Ohio State's Mar scilla Packer taped her video thank you to the fans last week in anticipation of reaching the 1,000-point threshold.
Three points shy of the mark entering Thursday, in a game when no one could score and the Buckeyes had no business hanging around, the senior finally triggered the clip when she went to a timeout huddle with 34 seconds left against Illinois. She had somehow brought her team within two with her first 3-pointer following an 0-for-5 shooting start.
"My teammates were congratulating me," Packer said, "and I was like, 'We can talk about it later.' I just wanted to win."

Moeller's clutch shot gives OSU women 43-42 victory
UPDATE: 11:32 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2008

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) ? Maria Moeller took only one shot in nine minutes off the bench and made it count.

Moeller?s 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining gave No. 16 Ohio State a 43-42 comeback win over Illinois on Thursday night.

Down by seven points with 4:56 left, the Buckeyes got a layup from Jantel Lavender and a 3-pointer from Marscilla Packer to cut Illinois? lead to 42-40.

Moeller, a reserve sophomore guard, scored from the right corner to give the Buckeyes (14-3, 5-1 Big Ten) their fifth-straight win.

?I waited for my opportunity and when my time came I stepped up,? Moeller said.

The Buckeyes had not led since 14-13 with nearly nine minutes left in the first half.

?Moeller made the shot of her life,? Illinois coach Jolette Law said. ?I knew it was good when she shot it.?

Ohio State's Marscilla Packer had a lot to celebrate: the Buckeyes' comeback win and scoring her 1,000th point.

Illinois coach Jolette Law watched the three-point shot leave the hand of Ohio State guard Maria Moeller and immediately felt a sharp pain that accompanies disappointment. "I knew when she let it go, I was like, 'Oh, my God, this is going in,' " Law said.
From her on-court perspective, Moeller wasn't certain of her accuracy until the ball feathered through the net and lifted the Buckeyes to an unlikely 43-42 come-from-behind victory last night in Value City Arena.
"I was a little nervous," Moeller said. "I'm happy, though."

Ohio State's Marscilla Packer, driving against Wisconsin's Jolene Anderson, made 10 of 15 shots, including six three-pointers.

The Wisconsin women's basketball team asked serious questions of Ohio State in the second half yesterday afternoon in Value City Arena.
Time and again, the 16th-ranked Buckeyes turned to senior guard Marscilla Packer to provide the answers during a 79-74 Big Ten win that played out in front of a season-high crowd of 6,312. Packer matched her career high with a 32-point performance that allowed the Buckeyes (15-3, 6-1) to withstand a furious second-half rally by the Badgers (8-9, 1-6) and hold onto first place in the conference.
"Every time I saw Pack open, I tried to find her," freshman center Jantel Lavender said. "I know how hot she can get. When it's on, it's on."

Women's basketball: OSU expects physical test
Gophers know Packer has ability to hurt them

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Minnesota coach Pam Borton has reason to recall the 32-point anvil that Ohio State guard Marscilla Packer dropped on the Gophers in Williams Arena on Feb. 16, 2006.
"I can remember vividly the spot on the floor that she hit her eighth three," Borton said. "Marscilla was a sophomore that year. She's even better this year. She's playing with a lot of leadership. That's what seniors need to be doing this time of the year."
Packer played like a senior and then some Sunday, leading No. 15 Ohio State (15-3, 6-1) to a 79-74 Big Ten victory over Wisconsin. She matched the career high she set in Minnesota with 32 points that included six three-pointers among her 10 baskets.
