Lady Bucks Basketball Thread

Big couple of games for the ladies here. If they can beat Purdue and Iowa this week (both home games) theyll be firmly planted in the driver's seat for a 4th consecutive B10 championship. They'll then close the season out at Indiana (8-6), at Penn State (4-10), and at home vs Northwestern (0-13).

Iowa is 11-4, Purdue is 10-4, and OSU is 9-4 right now.

Go get 'em ladies! Cheer them on to victory, MolGen! :oh:

Thought they looked very good tonight! The ball movement was very nice and they moved without the ball extremely well! Loved watching Lavender pass when she got doubled early in the first half. She's going to be a great one!

This was a lot of fun to watch.

Great second half and a nice win tonight over PU. Foster said he got after them a bit at halftime. Whatever he said worked. :osu:

OHIO STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
A little rest does the Buckeyes good

Tuesday, February 19, 2008Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus -- Eight days off to prepare for a run at first place. If the break is there, take advantage of it.
Ohio State women's basketball coach Jim Foster used the longest conference rest period in his six seasons with the Buckeyes to create three days of fundamental practice as if the Buckeyes were back in preseason. Specific preparations for Purdue, which was part of a virtual three-way tie with Ohio State and Iowa for the top spot in the Big Ten, took just two days.
But Boilermakers coach Sharon Versyp, whose team played twice during the Buckeyes' break, was clearly envious, mentioning the rest as soon as she sat down at her postgame news conference Monday night.
@StoryAd
"I think it was a huge edge. Eight days and then you're at home?" Versyp said. "It helps."
It worked. No. 23 Ohio State beat Purdue, 72-56, as the Buckeyes maintained control of their Big Ten title hopes with Iowa coming to Columbus on Thursday night. Iowa is 11-4 in conference play, Ohio State 10-4 and Purdue 10-5.

ANDREA KJERRUMGAARD Dispatch
Tamarah Riley, who scored 12 points for Ohio State, puts up a shot while guarded by Danielle Campbell.

When it mattered most deep in the second half, the Ohio State women's basketball team remembered where it was and what was at stake last night in Value City Arena. "From the beginning of the season, we've talked about how we have to protect our home court to win the Big Ten," senior guard Marscilla Packer said. "We've been doing that the whole season."
Packer led five teammates in double figures with 18 points and helped nudge the 20th-ranked Buckeyes (19-6, 10-4) to a 72-56 victory over Purdue (14-12, 10-5). With the win, OSU closed to a half game behind first-place Iowa (18-8, 11-5) in the conference standings. The Hawkeyes come to Columbus on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.

Solid win last night. If the ladies could have made their free throws (13-28), it wouldn't have been that close. I hope they can bring that same energy and intensity on Thursday night.

Done! :)

Really solid effort by the whole team. The refs let them play last night, and the Bucks didn't look afraid to get in there and fight for rebounds. Lavender's starting to develop some really nice aggressive moves to the basket, and she threw one entry pass that most point guards couldn't make.

Unfortunately, we can't be at Thursday's game, so someone else will have to handle the cheering duties for that one.

Ohio State women's basketball
Buckeyes revved about shot at first

By Jim Massie

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
The excite-o-meter ran at a moderate but steady hum yesterday for the Ohio State women's basketball team.
The 20th-ranked Buckeyes (19-6, 10-4) were aware that first place in the Big Ten standings would be at stake at 7 tonight when they play host to conference-leading Iowa (18-8, 11-4) in Value City Arena.
"I think we're all very excited," junior guard Ashlee Trebilcock said. "We were really excited to play this last Purdue game (Monday). We took care of business, so hopefully we can do that against Iowa."
Trebilcock offered a smile without cartwheels. Three more Big Ten games follow the game with Iowa, and the OSU players offered low-key, mirror images of coach Jim Foster.
"We know we can't just beat Iowa and we're all good," Trebilcock said. "We know we have to keep winning."

Junior guard Kristi Smith and sixth-year senior Johanna Solverson also are threats from beyond the arc. OSU defenders will have to switch and talk.
? Noteworthy: The series is tied at 24, but the Buckeyes are 7-0 against the Hawkeyes in Value City Arena and 13-0 in the building this season. In the first game this season, Ohio State built a 46-29 lead in the first half. The Hawkeyes closed to 69-65 in the second half before four free throws from Marscilla Packer sealed a 73-65 win. ? OSU center Jantel Lavender needs four field goals to tie Katie Smith (189) for the program's freshman record.
