THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Over the previous three seasons, the Ohio State women's basketball team hasn't had to spend much time explaining why it lost a game, especially when the game was played within the Big Ten.
It's funny how seven days in January can change everyone's perspective. The 19th-ranked Buckeyes (16-5, 7-3) have dropped two of their past three games to conference opponents and suddenly share first place in the standings with Purdue and Iowa.
The stumble began 10 days ago with a 79-70 loss at Minnesota. OSU regrouped Monday to blow out Penn State by 36 points at home but lost 68-64 at Illinois on Thursday.

Tamarah Riley of Ohio State tries to work around Minnesota defender Zoe Harper.
For several seasons, Minnesota has set the tone for physical play in Big Ten women's basketball.
The Gophers (15-8, 6-5) tend to view opponents like tomato cans in the path of a steamroller and begin to move forward as soon as they put the machine in gear.
So when Ohio State (17-5, 8-3) yesterday declined a second flattening at Minnesota's hands in 10 days, a not-so-happy Gophers coach Pam Borton was left to sift through the pieces of a 76-62 loss in Value City Arena.
"We pride ourselves in being a physical and aggressive team with an attacking mentality," she said. "I thought that (Ohio State) took it right to us and played our game. The more physical and aggressive team won."
To remain in a first-place tie with Purdue and Iowa in the conference standings, the 19th-ranked Buckeyes overcame a 41-25 rebounding disadvantage and 5-of-13 shooting from the free throw line.
