Maybe someone who follows the team a little closer than I do can explain to me why Foster has not recruited someone who is a consistent outside shooter. They really have not had an outside threat for the past couple years. I know that Packer and Hoskins, before her injury, can occasionally hit the outside jumper but they are not what I call a consistent outside threat. I really thought that Moeller was going to be the answer after all the things that I read about her after she committed. I will agree that he is a consummate pg but her outside shooting is lacking.

Packer did struggle this season, shooting only 37.9%, but she did lead the Big Ten last year at 46.2%. I think a lot of us got spoiled having Caity Matter around. Not only was she an outstanding shooter, but she could take over games with her outside shooting. Packer is a good shooter, but not nearly as good of a player as Matter was.

Excellent points. Dont forget about Katie Smith before that. I almost think having that dominant of an inside presence has hurt our shooting, much like the boys team, due to trying to feed so often itstead of playing in flow. We don't have that sharp shooter right now and thats obvious but we arent making the mid range shots either other than Ashley Trebilcock. Again I think it comes down to helping out Jess inside and getting in a groove more on the offensive end. I love the way Moeller stepped up yesterday we just dont really have an answer for that 3-4 position right now from the opponents.

That is exactly what I thought while watching the game yesterday. We couldn't beat or defend the 3 and 4. gearlds for sure had a great 2nd half. Everytime she shot she hit it seemed like. We couldn't defend the height.

Ohio St. collapse in Big Ten final could be costly
Tuesday, March 6, 2007
By CLIFF BRUNT
AP Sports Writer

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? Ohio State?s fatigue hurt its chances in the Big Ten tournament championship. The Buckeyes will have to wait for the NCAA tournament pairings to see how costly their exhaustion really was.

The fifth-ranked Buckeyes, drained after an overtime win over Penn State in Sunday?s semifinals, lost 64-52 to No. 12 Purdue in the final on Monday night. Ohio State?s collapse might have cost it a top seed in the NCAA tournament.

The Buckeyes fell behind Purdue 21-0 and didn?t make a field goal for more than 10 minutes to start the game. Jessica Davenport finally made Ohio State?s first basket with 9:36 left in the first half after the Buckeyes missed their first 13 shots.

OHIO STATE WOMEN
Loss to Boilermakers puts Buckeyes in jam
Jockeying could leave OSU with a No. 4 seed

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State won the outright Big Ten regular-season women?s basketball championship with relative ease.
The Buckeyes (28-3) then lost convincingly to Purdue in the championship final of the conference tournament Monday in Indianapolis.
Three other heavyweight teams with regular-season conference titles on their resumes ? Duke (Atlantic Coast Conference), Tennessee (Southeastern Conference) and Connecticut (Big East) ? also fell short of winning their conference tournaments. Don?t, however, expect Ohio State to fare as well as the other three when the seeds are announced at 8 tonight for the NCAA Tournament.

As of late last week, the geography of the NCAA women?s basketball tournament didn?t hold a particular interest for Ohio State senior center Jessica Davenport.
"I don?t even know where the sites are," Davenport said. "So I guess I haven?t given it much thought. Wherever we go, we have to go out and perform. We still have to play the game of basketball no matter where we?re placed." Davenport and the rest of the Big Ten regular-season champion Buckeyes (28-3) will find out at 8 tonight where they will travel later this week for the first round of the tournament.

The Women's squad received a #4 seed in the Dayton bracket. They will play Marist in the first round.

Purdue received a #2 seed in the Dallas region.

The other top seeds in the Dayton region, which will generally be considered the toughest, are:
1. Tennessee
2. Maryland
3. Oklahoma
4. Ohio State

Wow. Went from a potential #1 (even though that was far fetched) to a #4.......and in a division with UT, UM, and OK. Wow.

OSU was never a one seed after the injury. Anybody arguing that they shouldn't be a #4, follows the rankings blindly which as everybody knows are meaningless.

I think they should be a 3 seed, and having actually attended 14 of their games this year, I like to think I'm not blindly following rankings. Our three losses were to teams given 2, 3, and 5 seeds in the tournament, and we also beat two of those teams this year.

You could make a very reasonable argument that they should be ahead of 3 seeds Georgia (6 losses), or Oklahoma (4 losses, including at home to OSU, and to a very mediocre Texas team).

The committee must be making a (rather severe) statement about their confidence in us after Hoskins' injury, because I can't find another way to justify it. Hypothetically, if the mens' team had lost Conley to injury near the end of the season, then lost to Wisconsin in the B10 title, would they have dropped to a 4? Seems hard to believe.

OSU's fourth seed upsets team, but Buckeyes ready for NCAA play without guard Hoskins

Tuesday, March 13, 2007 Doug Lesmerises

Plain Dealer Reporter
Columbus- A walking boot covering her left foot and ankle, her crutches tossed on coach Jim Foster's floor, Ohio State guard Brandie Hoskins slowly shook her head Monday night after the Buckeyes, ranked No. 5 in the latest AP poll and No. 8 in the RPI math, were announced as a No. 4 seed for the NCAA Tournament.
"I'm not mad, but I was shocked," said Hoskins, who sure looked mad in the silence that filled Foster's living room during the team's NCAA watch party, Athletic Director Gene Smith patting Foster on the arm and quietly saying, "Let's go get it done."
