Krenzel ... Good, Bad or Ugly? (Long)

Not bitching, just a thought. Craig Krenzel had a great career at OSU, but how many times did people want him pulled for McMullen? How many receivers did he miss both short and long routes?

The overall feeling that I get is that people are not happy with the development (position coaching) of the team. I read that Zwick has regressed from high school, the O line is worse each year, etc.

When Craig was here you would read that he consistently overthrew receivers and McMullen should have gotten a shot. I think that his performance for the Bears would shed some light on the QB coaching at OSU. If Craig plays well for the Bears and hits his short routes with accuracy (and his long routes with accuracy) and puts up some decent numbers, then what will people say about his QB play while at OSU? How many people have said that "we have three O linemen starting in the pros, but they sucked while they were at OSU!" Isn't this is the same type of situation?

If he turns into Dan Marino maybe it is the same type of situation.... but I think my point is that he hasn't played yet, so you're kind of jumping the gun a bit.

Also... maybe those 3 guys... only 2 of which are starting, btw... didn't suck so bad... what we've got now is what I'd call "sucking"... at least comparatively.

That said... Bollman needs to be evaluated at the end of the season, I agree... but to me, those dudes could have sucked in the NFL, and it wouldn't change the fact that the OL isn't producing here, since the other side of the argument is that there are plenty of good OL's out there (in college football) with zero NFL prospects.

Pre-emptive bitching?

This is Moronic.

First. He's not going to light it up. He plays for the Bears. They drafted him to be a second string game manager... at best he'll be teh same QB he was at Ohio State. Can he win games in the NFL? Maybe... but he'll be more John Kitna than Dan Fouts.
BAD CALL! BAD CALL! Fuck Dan Fouts, and everything he stands for.

I happened to hear a discussion the other day talking about practice reps in the pros. Unlike college where the starter gets most of the reps, but the backup still gets a good share in the pros the backup rarely sees ANY reps. The third stringer probably hands them towells when needed.,

Point being that should CK 'light it up' you can thank the coaches at theOSU.

John Kitna kicked some ass last year....

He sure did... BUT... I dont see how CK becoming John Kitna or say... Trent Dilfer translates a misuse of Krenzel's Talents at Ohio State... As a matter of fact, I'm not real sure how you can make arguments... that don't just sound stupid that says the staff misused a guy who won 14 games in a season and won the big game, then went home and fucked the prom queen.

There was a reason I used Fouts and Marino as examples... want to throw in Peyton Manning?

Are we going to go through the entire 2002 - 2003 roster and start a thread about whether or not a players talents were developed enough under our coaching staff?

The Zwick vs. Smith debate has already worn thin - what't the point of bringing up former players?

Just a question. That's all.

Like I said, everyone wants to talk about OSU's linemen starting in the NFL, so I thought this might be a question worth asking.

Don't tell me that if Krenzel comes out and throws for 300 yards and 2 touchdowns that there won't be some chirping about the QB coaching at OSU. Again, how many people were calling for Scott McMullen last year? Be honest, now. Why? Because in some people's eyes, Krenzel was not playing very well.

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.

They saw Henry Burris, Chris Chandler, and Kordell stewart running around back there.

Trust me, Krenzel's not seeing time because he's so good. Quinn's been worse than expected and Hutchinson is probably still rusty. I'm a Bears fan and I'm excited to see a Buckeye taking snaps for them :) I am going to the game v. the Texans and I hope I get to see Krenzel start again.

Bears still not announcing starter, look at Couch

<!-- begin body-content -->LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Chicago Bears didn't name their starting quarterback Friday for Sunday's game at Tampa Bay and were ready to take a look at Tim Couch.

"We're going to work him (Couch) out later today," Bears coach Lovie Smith said Friday after practice.

Chicago probably will start Jonathan Quinn on Sunday against the Bucs, although rookie Craig Krenzel has been given more practice time and could step in if Quinn struggles for a third straight game.

Quinn got the starter's job when Rex Grossman suffered a season-ending knee injury. With Quinn struggling, the Bears decided to give the rookie Krenzel more of a look this week.

"We're still evaluating everything right now," said Smith, who stated earlier that the starter might not be announced until right before the game.

The Bears were to give Couch, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 draft for Cleveland, a physical and then a tryout to see if his sore shoulder has recovered to make him an effective passer again. He started 59 games for the Browns.

After being cut by Cleveland in June, he signed with the Packers but was cut a week before the season started after having problems throwing the ball.

Smith also said Friday that defensive end Adewale Ogunleye would miss Sunday's game with an injury to his lower right leg.

(and a couple examples off the Bears' mb)--

Tim Couch is a QB with lots of potential, and lots of already wasted potential. But the bottom line is that he is an upgrade over anybody we have at this present time. I'd still personally like to at least see Krenzel a little bit in a game situation though.

i would let Krenzel play i like him

I am from cleveland and all I can say is Tim Couch sucks. Now I was never a couch basher but it finally became apparent that he's not a nfl qb. I am also a buckeye fan and I would rather see Krenzel...Krenzil reminds me of Brady, they just find ways to get first downs.

****
I Choose Couch! (but give Krenzel a shot first)
