Krenzel ... Good, Bad or Ugly? (Long)

Krenzel was the first Big Ten QB taken, ahead of Navarre, Smoker, and Sorgi.

Here's an interesting thought... take all the QB's Krenzel has played against in his starting career. Has anybody besides Philip Rivers been drafted higher than CK? Kittner went in the 5th, but later than CK. Bollinger 6th, Kingsbury 6th, Dorsey 7th, Harris 6th, Sorgi 6th, Smoker 6th, Navarre 7th, Pickett 7th.

I think Smoker will be the best out of that bunch too, the only one with true starting potential. And I think Krenzel might stick around for a couple of years as a backup.

There's a former OSU coach on the Beras staff. I'm sure he would of spoke up in the War room if he didn't think Krenzel could get the job done and there was a better QB in the Big Ten that Chicago should pick. With him seeing Craig every day in practice I would hope they would listen to him.

To me, it seemed that there was a combination of poor execution and suspect play calling last year. First, at times the execution of basic running plays was horrible. On the other hand, it can become difficult (if not impossible) to execute if the defense knows exactly where the play is going. I would love to see a little more misdirection in the running game and running away from the strength some.

From a coach's perspective, 2nd and 10 is awful to be in. Also, a 50-50 ratio of pass to run on 1st down is ideal. But when a pass play is called on 1st down and the QB misses a wide open receiver (on several series early in the game) then the natural reaction from a coach is to not call as many pass plays on 1st down. That's what I saw happen in last year's UW game and it may have set a tone for the season. (Then again it may not have).

CK has done us well on the field and off the field. I agree that he may have been doing a bit of a sales job for the Chicago area with his comments. However, I too wish he would have kept those comments to himself.

I don't think he was trying to knock the system but rather explain his sometimes inconsistant play.

I can understand what he is saying, but I think he would be the first to tell you he wouldn't trade his National Championship Ring for the chance to have thrown the ball more in college.

well, I am not trying to take those comments to heart because CK was one of the best leaders we have ever had at OSU, the kid took so many shots the last two years and made so many big plays, I dont know his motivation for those comments but I will give him the benefit of the doubt because he earned my respect by the way he handled himself on and off the field, say what you want about his passing or lack of accuracy but the guy is a winner!

Craig Krenzel Bobblehead

This may need to go on the general page, so if anyone thinks it needs moved please do.

That said, there is a limited addition bobblehead that Donatos has been offering in the Columbus area, that many of us out of staters haven't been able to get... now you can... just Click Here.

Krenzel may get some time for the Bears! Question for the board.

This morning on Mike and Mike in the Morning, it was mentioned that the Chicago Bears were not equipped to handle the loss of Rex Grossman this season. They went on to say that his back up Jonathan Quinn isn't getting it done, and the Bears may look to the rookie Craig Krenzel.

My question is this: If Krenzel comes out and lights it up, will this be another case of a talented player not getting coached up while at OSU? We've seen it with last years linemen who are now starting on NFL teams, now we might see a QB who, while serviceable here at OSU, now gets developed into a great QB by the right coaching.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Pre-emptive bitching?

This is Moronic.

First. He's not going to light it up. He plays for the Bears. They drafted him to be a second string game manager... at best he'll be teh same QB he was at Ohio State. Can he win games in the NFL? Maybe... but he'll be more John Kitna than Dan Fouts.

He did his job at OSU and won a Nation title... how can you say he wasn't very good at OSU (or wasn't coached up)...? He wasn't what a lot of the scUM qb's have been in the past, however he did lead the team to a NC...
