Krenzel ... Good, Bad or Ugly? (Long)

Krenzel quotes on the OSU offense

On the Chicago Bears website:

The No. 1 problem I found here at Ohio State is that I never got into a consistent passing rhythm within a game," Krenzel said. "So many quarterbacks get in that zone or that rhythm or that feeling you get when you're in a game, and in our offense sometimes that was difficult.

"We ran the ball so much that there would be seven, eight plays before you throw the ball again. It's difficult for a quarterback to find that rhythm.

"I guess the big thing to go out and prove is that I can go out and be that consistent, every-play quarterback and I can get the ball where it needs to go a majority of the time."

what a whiner. The reason he never got into rhythm was his mediocre play this past year. He's been full of himself all year...from his moronic quotes in SI (If I played in an wide open offense, I'd be the player all the scouts would be talking about) to this.

krenzel, i love you, you have graduated as a Buckeye Legend...but shut the F up!!!

i am in the process of looking at every game to see if there was a single time ALL YEAR that his supposed claim of us running the ball on 7 consecutive plays is true.

the washington game: 32 passing plays (pass, sack, or scramble), 29 running plays, 3 qb sneaks. longest streak of consecutive running plays: 4

san diego st: 32 passing plays, 22 running plays. i didn't count the running plays to run out the clock in both halves. longest streak of consecutive running plays: 3 (there were 4 in a row, but they were interrupted by a change of possession)

ncsu: 41 passing plays, 18 running plays, 9 designed QB runs. longest streak of consecutive running plays: 2

DNP against bg and northwestern

wisconsin: 36 passing plays, 15 running plays, 3 designed qb runs. longest streak of consecutive running plays: 2

starting to get the picture? krenzel, if you want to improve, work on your accuracy, instead of making excuses. I'm getting kind of tired of this perception we have nationwide that we don't throw the ball. 141 passing plays to only 84 running plays.

Krenzel

OK, 1st post here on BP......Let's quit with the MoC crap.......he'll do what he wants to do as usual. Craig K is a class individual and shows that with everything he does. I had the opportunity to meet this man in person recently at a signing in Marion, Oh and he comes off as nothing but a class guy. He did, however, give me a less than desired autograph (but what's to be expected from a to-be doctor). I can see him competing for a job in Chicago. Go Bucks!!

Krenzel was the first Big Ten QB taken, ahead of Navarre, Smoker, and Sorgi.

Here's an interesting thought... take all the QB's Krenzel has played against in his starting career. Has anybody besides Philip Rivers been drafted higher than CK? Kittner went in the 5th, but later than CK. Bollinger 6th, Kingsbury 6th, Dorsey 7th, Harris 6th, Sorgi 6th, Smoker 6th, Navarre 7th, Pickett 7th.

In the Washington opener last year, OSU threw on 5 of their first 6 plays...one completion. While we weren't a passing type offense, I wouldn't say it was a type that handcuffed our QBs either.

Craig's going to have doubters and detractors within the Bears fanbase. That's still Big Ten country, so a lot of those people are going to be at least a little familiar with his strengths and weaknesses. I think in a case like this, he's just trying to sell himself a little bit. Convince doubters that in a different system, he can be a different QB. I'm not sure that's the case, but I understand why he's saying it. Honestly, I don't really have a problem with his comments at all. That offense didn't prevent us from winning the national title. Nor did it keep us from getting 1 game from playing for it again last year. It also didn't stop us from winning a 2nd straight BCS bowl game.

I know a lot of people hate the offense, maybe Craig is one of them, but I sometimes find it hard to question its efficacy overall. I still don't think it's where JT wants it. I don't think he's going to reinvent the wheel this year, but I think (with all due respect to Craig, who will go down as one of my favorite players) if you just took what we did last year, and connect on more of the passes, we look *a lot* different. So yeah, lol, I'd never dare say this on BNuts, but I think we're lacking in execution more than we are diversity and vision. Not that there aren't times I find us painfully predictable, but I'm always reminded of one of JT's comments. I'm paraphrasing; "In order to be unpredictable, first you have to be predictable." I think about that option TD against Michigan 2 years ago, Holy Buckeye against Purdue, well, we could rattle off quite a few "wow" moments where we got what we needed to win a close one. Jim plays chess on the field at a time where some teams limit their philosophy to "if we score 100 points, they'd have to get 101 to beat us! Woooo!"

Someone tell me I just don't understand the game, so I can pretend I'm back over there. lol.

hey man... me and Rip used to go 'round and 'round on that very point all last season... he was of the opinion that the play calling was atrocious... i was of the opinion that you don't ADD to the playbook when the O can't even properly execute an Off tackle play...

BN was still relatively OK during the season last year... it was during the subscription drive in Jan (and the subsequent 'making examples of and points by, banning well respected members') that the shit hit the fan, and the site went completely to hell...

anyway: i love CK, and he is one tough mother lover, but he needs to shut his trap... his passing was inconsistant at best...

I gotta say I'm with Clarity on this one, I don't really see a problem with Krenzel's statements either. He isn't insulting anyone, or even speaking negatively. There may be some exaggeration there, but who cares? He's basically right. Ohio State, especially for the past couple of years, has been a run first, pass second offense. And probably one-fourth of CK's pass plays ended up with him running the ball (or getting sacked) instead. They guy firmly believes he can be much better than most people's perception, and I hope he is. Obviously Chicago thinks so, since they took him in the 5th, ahead of such QB's as Sorgi, Josh Harris, and Navarre.
