And without meaning to, you make a very good point. I do believe all of us are a little bit racist, actually. It's just a matter of degree.

Richards' outburst was unquestionably an act of racism. If the hecklers called him a "honkey", that is unquestionably an act of racism.

He went a little overboard..I'm condoning what he did....but this has been completely blown out of proportation. I mean Gloria Allred wants Richards to pay those guys $.....why? that is stupid...

It has been said that adversity does not build character, it reveals it.
Richard's tirade revealed who he is at his core - and maybe he did not even realize to what extent himself - that he is a racist.

He did not, as you say, go a little overboard. He was not trying to be funny. He has admitted so himself. He totally lost it and went into a rage and his true feelings came out. Happens all the time. It just usually doesn't end up on the national news.

I just watched his apology on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UonEdXBl1xw

He seems like he is nuts and not right in the head
He seems genuinely confused as to where this rant came from
I believe him that he is sorry for what he did
I appreciate that fact he states that he needs to do personal work to change.
He takes the blame and said that he will try and do the footwork to fix it.

Time will tell but his intentions seemed honest and I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. It isn't like 50 people have come out (ala Marge Schott) saying that they heard him being racist. This might be a case of a really really really bad day.
