I don't think he is a racist. I think he just got caught up in the moment with the hecklers and just went a little overboard. Have you ever heard the comics on BET?

He's a racist. The degree of his racism is debatable. But when he was heckled, he did what most of us do, which is to attack the other person in the way they think will hurt them the most. Richards decided to focus on the guy's race. That, by it's very definition, makes him a racist. He, in all his wit, could think of no better come back than to focus on attacking the guy's race.

But I would agree that he can't possibly be as racist as he sounded.

But that's completely different. Its black comedians ripping on white people. Perfectly acceptable apparently.

I agree that there is an absurd double standard. But that just means we should be less accepting of the intolerance of black comedians, rather than more accepting of the intolerance of people like Richards.

I still don't see how it is relevant what black comedians do since Kramer's tirade was NOT a part of his comedic act.

Are we to understand that if a racist remark told by an entertainer get laughs isn't a racist remark?
The comedians on BET say terrible rasict remarks, but I guess it's ok if you are a comedian or black

then I guess all of us in the country are racist. We have all said racist remarks one time or another in our lifetime. Just because he goes off one night in his life does not make a man a racist.

He went a little overboard..I'm condoning what he did....but this has been completely blown out of proportation. I mean Gloria Allred wants Richards to pay those guys $.....why? that is stupid...

Well she is their lawyer. What would you expect?

Where did I say that? I said it wasn't relevant. I never said it wasn't racist.

His tirade was not part of his act. He lost his composure. Talking about what black comedians do during their acts is a worthy topic, but it is not relevant to this topic.

gotta love that double standard we get to live with

There's no double standard. There are very funny and respected white comedians who use race (specifically black jokes) in their routines on a regular basis. Among them are Artie Lange, Gilbert Gottfried, Bob Sagat, Lisa Lampanelli, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel, Adam Corrolla, Greg Fitzimmons, Norm McDonald, and more.

We have all said racist remarks one time or another in our lifetime.

Speak for yourself.

Glad to seee that your vast knowledge of comedians extends no further than one's who have appeared on the Howard Stern Show. :slappy:

Sadly I left out Triumph the Insult Comic Dog...who also appears on the Stern Show. What can I say, I like my comedy a tad blue.

Dissagree. I think he tried to make it part of his act, he just SUCKED at it and it wasn't funny. Much of this backlash stems from the fact that what he said WAS NOT FUNNY. If it had some imagination humor and creativity to the tyrade we would not be sitting here today discussing his remarks.

The biggest issue I see is that Richards sucks at stand up and does not know how to handle a heckler.

My point is that many of the above comedians can make fun of a person because of their race because they do it in a funny way. As soon as it isn't funny you look like you are just another white racist throwin the N bomb.

It is my understanding that the hecklers were calling him cracker as part of the "heckling". That may have spurred the tirade that he went off on. I think somebody earlier said it best that he got pissed and tried to say something hurtfull.

So I guess the question is: If they called him cracker, is he held to a higher standard (to not return with the n word) because he was hired to work there? I say no...if somebody else opens that can of worms on me...then lets play ball.
