taking a corner that high is draft suicide, someone name a corner that went around #7 that lived up to any hype or was productive at all.

Should my sarcasm font be on here?

Terrence Newman comes to mind as well, Springs and Bailey were the first ones I thought of... though I couldn't remember if Bailey was in the top 7 for sure.

Only guy I can think of that would be a complete bust in that range is probably Pac Man Jones...

Actually, most top-10 picks pan out quite nicely.

Top-ten overall selections (bold = very good player):

6. Pacman Jones (his personal demons don't change his performance pre-suspension)
8. Antrel Rolle
9. Carlos Rogers
8. DeAngelo Hall
10. Dunta Robinson
5. Terrance Newman
5. Quentin Jammer
7. Champ Bailey
10. Chris McAlister

4. Charles Woodson
10. Duane Starks
3. Shawn Springs
5. Bryant Westbrook
(2 ACLs halted a promising career)
10. Tom Knight

11 Trufant, 14 Revis were pretty solid.

Drafting the BPA is not draft suicide. Letting the teams that typically end up #1-7 make the pick is draft suicide. The problem isn't that cornerbacks are inherently a bad pick, the problem is that teams either suck at evaluating talent or make picks based on stupid rules like that, so that a guy like Darrelle Revis ends up falling to #14 - conveniently outside of that little maxim of yours.

It's revisionist history, but Revis should've been a Top 5 pick. He's right up there with Joe Thomas, Adrian Peterson, Patrick Wills & Calvin Johnson at the head of that draft class. Failing to recognize something like that is often what leads to picking in the Top 7 again next year and the year after, too.

If a team has reason to believe that any particular CB is going to be on the level the Revis is, there isn't a thing wrong with picking him that high.

None of those guys was any good, duh. :shake:

Shawn Springs?
Quinten Jammer?

Are you guys serious? And you are getting sarcastic with me? Prime Time and Champ Bailey are the only corners over the last 20 years that were drafted in the top ten and did anything that warranted being picked that high.

Come at me bro!

6. Pacman Jones Not on any roster, not worth top 10 pick (his personal demons don't change his performance pre-suspension)
8. Antrel Rolle
9. Carlos Rogers
8. DeAngelo Hall-Not a very good player, the raiders paid him to leave
10. Dunta Robinson-average corner
5. Terrance Newman-average corner, could have found same guy in later rounds.
5. Quentin Jammer
7. Champ Bailey- Worthy
10. Chris McAlister- Pretty good corner
4. Charles Woodson- Never did anything until last two years
10. Duane Starks
3. Shawn Springs-Homer pick
5. Bryant Westbrook-No (2 ACLs halted a promising career)
10. Tom Knight

11 Trufant, 14 Revis were pretty solid.

No, absolutely not.

Um, Quentin Jammer is on the other side of the argument... you know what the difference between bold and unbold is.

I'll stick with Springs. Feel free to bash him if you like.

Bucklion was qouted a statement with those two and used a mocking manner towards me.

Even if Springs was worth a top 7 pick, that is 3 in the last 20 years that did anything worth being picked that high. You can get the same player later in the draft, the odds prove it every single year.

To be fair, he quoted it before I added Jammer. Jammer's the worst of the ones I listed, but still solid. That doesn't change the fact that we were all able to "name a corner taken around 7 that was productive at all."

I can't say that you have been missed:) If you are from Cleveland, you need to make your way over to the East Side and there is a hospital on Turney Road that might be able to help you:biggrin2:

The measuring stick isn't hall of fame or bust, champ. You just listed arguably the best corner ever & the best in a decade.

Bailey needs no explanation.
Woodson was a six time pro bowl selection, despite playing with injuries & the black hole.
McAlister made the pro bowl & had a pretty good career, as you admitted.
Newman made the pro bowl, just landed a huge contract extension, and has been a good corner for Dallas.
Springs made the pro bowl and was hampered later by injuries.
Hall made the pro bowl twice. The raiders cut ties with his headaches, not his very good ability.

-------that's almost a 50% hit rate for pro bowlers----------

Robinson was just franchise tagged by the Texans.
Pacman Jones was an excellent player before his year off.
