Great announcer and the voice of college football; however.......

He hated Ohio State and loved Bo and Michigan. In the late 90s, I listened to him on a pure satellite feed doing a game from Ohio Stadium, and the sh|t that he spouted when the broadcast feed was off was pure disdain for both Ohio State and the stadium. It was really shocking. Won't speak ill of the dead, but fuck him.

Possibly THE WORST post I've ever seen here or on any public forum. I'm 55 years old and grew up with Keith Jackson doing CFB games. He was quite simply "The Voice" I remember. I don't give a rats fucking ass about what you "heard" on some satellite shit site. If he hated Ohio State so be it. If he loved Bo and Michigan than more power to him. But to end your post with "fuck him" in my eyes makes you deplorable. Maybe you had a bad day today. Maybe you had too much to drink and didn't "THINK, before you speak." Irregardless, your post was really not what this man deserved. "I didn't like him" would have been okay. "Fuck him" just doesn't work for me, and I'm sure doesn't work for the majority here.

You will have to excuse ORD. Not easy being a hypocrite.

If you live outside the US, you hear comments from the announcers who are muted from the US broadcast but still live to the satellite truck or feed. I have been absolutely shocked to hear ESPiN announcers discussing which sides of an issue they would take or how they might have riled the fans from a particular fanbase, over the years. I won't speak ill of the dead and I actually liked what Keith Jackson brought to The Game.

I might feel a lot different if I had heard what ORD heard and, out of decency, does not repeat.

Why am I being a hypocrite? Because I won't shed crocodile tears for a guy I listened to bag on my alma mater for an entire game and refer to Ohio Stadium as a "cesspool?" I think shedding those tears and posting RIP would be the hypocritical thing to do. Actually, the hypocritical thing was for Jackson to accept that set of expensive golf clubs from a university and athletic department for which he apparently had no respect.

First off, ORD-, want you to know I have no problem with you personally and have always felt that you are a good poster on this site. That being said, maybe the best thing you could have said was nothing. Just post a blank reply. If you didn't like Keith Jackson for your own reasons then I can respect that. I would expect nobody to share good wishes to anyone they don't like in life or in death, but in this case you should have just left it alone. "Fuck him" to describe a man that just died just doesn't work ( unless the mans name is Hitler, or Bin Laden, or Hussein, Manson, etc the REAL bad guys). Keith Jackson brought a ton of good to College Football and to the sports world in general. The fact that you feel that he hated The Buckeyes might piss you off, might piss alot of people off as well. But this was started as a "R.I.P" thread and negative comments truly should not be warranted here.

Peace

Welp, here's what I'm trying to say; Whatever Jackson thought and said off mic was his business. In my judgement he never allowed his private thoughts to interfere with his call of The Game. He had anecdotes from players and coaches of both teams and used them when appropriate. He knew the history behind the game and allowed it to seep into his call. He was not calling the game for Ohio State or Michigan. He called it for ALL fans, those with a favorite and those who only wanted to watch an excellent game and pageant.

This is my impression as well. Listening to him in the booth and what _we_ heard, I would have never guessed a bias or dislike for either team in The Game. Regardless of how he felt he was clearly good enough at his job, which at the time I think included being more unbiased than it does now, to be the voice of The Game for years.

That said, for KJ or any others, I'd love to hear / read some of those feeds from games where the US mic was 'off' as it were. Not necessarily looking for a bias per se, but more for some of the insight that they may not be sharing during the games. That may include their personal opinions, anecdotes they may not be sharing on air and heaven forbid real insight into what they are seeing on the field that would go over the head of the average viewer of the games. Not trying to stray off topic here, but I'd really like to (and hope that I would) hear discussion from Herbie that extends beyond the vapid 'moxie / plays well in space' crap that we've been fed. Good / bad / otherwise, I suspect those feeds would be quite a refreshing change of perspective. Imagine what it would be like to have Ross Fulton in the booth with smooth delivery (not that I know why Ross sounds like on the mic, but I guess that people write for a reason... not a knock).

If please do share links. I may go looking myself if I find time today.

I agree with that. I don't have any regrets in posting my story, but ending it with "fuck him" on the day he died maybe....possibly....might have arguably....been a bridge too far.
