K Mike Nugent (All American, Lou Groza Winner, National Champion)

I hope and pray that Mike Nugent ends up in New York. He's alreday one of the most famous kickers in the country, regardless of league. In New York, he would become a superstar - the most famous PK ever. He would make mad cash.

I actually caught myself laughing when the Jets punted and the announcer said, "they'll have to punt, what would that be? A 52 yarder?"

OSU fans everywhere were saying, "And? What's the big deal about a 52 yarder?"

Every Buckeye fan who watched that game had to have the same thought. The Jets missed three FGs that would have been chip shots for The Nuge.

Memo to the NYJ -- draft Nugent in the first round and give the kid the $$$. If he were on your team right now, your season would still be going.

Jets may be a good fit.

What about the Vikings? How many times the last two playoff games have you seen the Vikings on the 30 or 28 yard line but they were still out of FG range? That's rediculous.

I would prefer him in NY or in Cleveland, but there are many teams that are in need of a quality FG kicker.

So, how high do you experts say he goes? I've been thinking 3rd round.

I say someone gets worried and ends up spending a mid-range 2nd on him.

This just goes to show what an absolute crap shoot it is to draft a kicker, and what headcases kickers can be. I mean really, you'd think that with millions upon millions of soccer and rugby players, not to mention the three or four hundred college kickers (considering all divisions) coming out every year, NFL teams would've finally found the 32 guys who can kick a friggin' football!

heinz field is a kickers nightmare though, no one has made a 50 yarder in 4 years...that shows how hard it is to kick in pitt. granted no excuses.
Its hardest from the end toward the river by the account of prior kickers wearing the Black 'n' Gold.
Recognizing that this thread is about the Jets needing Nuuge - couple of thoughts on Nuuge fitting in at Heinz field.
Wouldn't in a million years want Nugent in Steelers garb. A - I'm a Bengals fan, I figure they already have enough advantages. B - Kickers get no respect from Cowher and his crew.

Anyone know how HermE views kickers?

My dear departed mother-in-law had a similar attitude in years gone past when the Buckeyes had a let-down in the FG kicking game.

Favorite line from those long ago past years:
"There are over 50,000 kids on campus down at Ohio State - can't the coach find one of them that can kick a ball."

I agree 100%. Teams draft WRs, TBs, and QBs in Round 1 that NEVER contribute to a victory. With parity in the NFL a kicker can be the difference 4 or more games every year yet teams settle for third round picks at best and use the higher picks on a "skill" player. What the HELL is a kicker if not a "skill" position. The J-E-T-S have found out but I would bet that they go deep into the first day without getting a kicker. There is NO other Nugent out there. I believe in some small way he is the reincarnation of Lou Groza.

anyone happen to have a vid of one of nugents 55 yarders handy? also, a vid of one of the jets misses? hopefully the shortest one.

one of the managers here is a HUGE jets fan. she has demanded that noone "say a word" about what happened. so if i can't say anything... i figure a vid will work .

Trade with Jets

now that Nuge is going NFL anyway... maybe we can trade Nuge for Cushing, Gwaltney and Simms... altho, the rights to those three could be owned by the Giants...

AND we'll toss in Chow !!!

My all-time favorite Nuge kick was the extra point in overtime of the NC. Though it was seemingly automatic there was tremendous pressure on that kick. I just shut my eyes a prayed. At least one pro has missed a comparable kick under similar but not identical circumstances - with the playoffs riding on a conversion at NO last year following the Stanford-like TD we all saw a MISS.
