I agree. I think Coach T is what I'd call an Eternal Optimist (not in a bad/naive way). I don't think he automatically gives out 2nd & 3rd (or in MoC's case 4th, 5th...) chances to whoever, whenever, but is so aware of the incredible potential his Football program and the University has to make a life altering difference in a young man's life (see Troy Smith) that he is willing to go well beyond what most of us would probably find as "reasonable" opportunity to help if he thinks the slightest possibilty exists...and even to the point that his own and even the Program's / Universities reputation (in the media's eye's at least) takes a temporary hit.
Let's hope that Skeete takes his 2nd chance and becomes a "Troy Smith" story rather than a "MoC" ending.

Well, how about Haw, who was arrested for marijuana and is back in good standing with the team? I think Tressel just looks at these student-athletes through the eyes of the university: if they ask for a second chance and are in good standing with the registrar, he seems to give it to them. Irizarry couldn't come back because a violent offender is prevented from re-enrolling for a year or so, while Skeete is in the eyes of the university a minor offender who is on probation but has all the other requisite qualities to be an OSU student--hence, eligible for the football team.

I have just looked at all of the major sports sites. All are avoiding any hyperbole and positioning this as a kid who has served a suspension and is returning as a walk-on after being stripped of his scholarship. There are no, repeat no, references to Clarett or any other supposed player wrongdoing and there is no innuendo about the University or Coach Tressel for taking him back. It is positioned as a normal occurence for a kid who has been sentenced to probation.
I honestly don't think there are going to be any media problems over this and I think we should not get too excited. Everything will be okay and he may not even get a sniff of the field anyway.
I despise drugs and lost three of my closest friends in high school and two relatives to them. Nevertheless, I believe that we need to remember that despite what he did, this is a gifted academic student who has talent. He has been judged and sentenced and readmitted to Ohio State. If Coach Tressel believes he deserves a chance, then I think we should rely on his judgement.

FYI, he's motivated as all hell to be the starter this year. He's looking at it as his job to lose and he believes he would of been the starter last year if it werent for this. He knows he's on thin ice and he knows he's been given a second chance. I hope he takes full advanatge of it, if he's that good he'll play and we'll get all kinds of shit for having a convicted felon obviously, but i have no problem looking at a scum fan and saying yea we gave himn a second chance and he's turned into a buckeye. Wheter or not he'll play or change remains to be seen but I have an open mind and hopefully he'll pay back the fans for welcoming him back.

meaning it could of been skeete hitting the game winner? or tressel will give the other 2 kickers more of a chance based on loyalty until skeete has proven himself more (ie zwick/troy situation, more specifically after we nearly fumbled the kickoff away before our last real chance to drive)

It's pretty obvious what BN27 means, and that is talent or position means squat when it comes to paying your dues. If JT wasn't going to let Troy lead the offense on possibly our most important drive of the season, then he's not going to let Skeete step in as kicker without a lot of repentence on Skeete's part...

Ryan Pretorius won't be sitting back and letting Skeete walk in and take the job that's now his. He'll have to earn it and its not clear to me that he can. We'll see.

I thought this was just disgusting the way ESPN failed to mention that Skeete was not back on the roster, we allowed him to try out as a walk on. Man, can they even get Tressel quoted correctly without hashing his words to sell stories??!?!?!:
