Just Curious: What's your honest opinion of LSU?

An unsophistivated view:
LSU is talented and tough, but sometimes a bit shaky on offense. Less shaky on defense, despite their late-season form.
They will be well rested and essentially at home, so OSU will have to play some serious smashmouth football and NEVER QUIT, even when things look dim, if y'all are to win. Play hard to the end... and beyond, to have a chance
Good luck!

I'm familiar with OSU and what y'all are capable of and to tell you the truth, I'm more nervous than a whore at church at the thought of playing y'all for the title. I mean, y'all have more than enough motivation after that game last year. So, what do you think about us?

immensely talented.
incredibly undisciplined.

As much as I hate to say this, I think that's how most Tiger fans see it too. I think part of it is that week 1, we had the most Vanilla playcalling I have ever seen, yet still beat Miss St. by 45 in the rain on the road. Then the following week, we just punched Va Tech right in the mouth and embarrassed them. Knowing that we're capable of putting on the kinda show has kept us high in the ratings. Not putting on that kind of show ever again (not even against Tulane) has Tiger fans wondering why?

I don't get to watch as much college football as I used to, but because of when they usually play, I have gotten to see LSU for the majority of at at least 5 games that I can remember.

As to wondering why, and vanilla playcalling.... I think this is your coach and his personality (and I'm not talking about batshit crazy, though I agree with that). In a way its good, and, in a way its not. Whether LSU is the most talented team in the country is important from this perspective, what is important is that Miles believes that is the case. As such, he is [maybe bullheadedly] determined to impose "the will" of that talent on your opponents.

Now, this is a reasonable school of thought, I mean, if you're better, why sling the rock all over the field or do anything stupid? I understand that. I do. Tressel does it all the time. But, there are lots of factors that play into things... and... in the 4th Quarter you have to adapt. I don't think Miles is all that good at that. (I think he pretty much sucks as a clock/possession/field position manager).

On the other hand, it lost LSU two games and nearly the Florida game.

There was a point when I pretty much thought that LSU's talent was winning despite Miles, and some of the playcalling just dumbfounded me, yet LSU's athletes made a lot of that stuff work anyway.... (Some of the screens... Passes to the RB's etc on 3 and long they do late in games is dumbfounding. Having said that, I do kind of like that he goes for it so often on 4th down.... but, you have to question sometimes why LSU are in 4th down with the game on the line so often, I imagine).

At any rate, I guess my point is that LSU has athletes and I sort of like the strategy, just don't feel Les makes good adjustments.

Just generally... I think Miles will do everything he can to establish the power run... maybe they can do it, maybe they can't. But, if that's the case.... at least from the perspective of LSU's offense, "SEC Speed" won't really matter that much.... I don't care how fast you are, you're not getting many corners on sweeps, etc.

As to the Defense... my general impression is that Ohio State's was a tick better with Dorsey, and quite a bit better since he got hurt. As to who is tougher? Well, I'd say TBD, each side is gonna get the biggest knock in the mouth they've gotten yet. With the exception of maybe LSU and Florida, and that was a close game, and I don't expect much else in this one.

As to the discipline comments, this is probably a very prejudiced view but I really see this as an SEC wide issue. Both as far a penalties and general extracurriculars. Dunno where the officiating crew will be from, but, if its from the Pac-10.... they better tell the LSU guys that if they make a big play they better hand the ball to the referree and jog back to the huddle. If its from the ACC, Ohio State better bring the KY.

I have to say though...I don't think very highly of your coach.

We get that a LOT from other SEC teams as well. They come to our boards, and tell us not to believe the hype, that the talent gap is not as big as the media says it is. Then after the game, they come back and say we won it on talent alone and our luck is gonna run out.

Sure he makes questionable calls, but which coach doesn't? He currently has a winning record vs every SEC team except Kentucky (1-1) and UGA (0-1). That list includes some pretty good names. Meyer, Tubby, Saban, Spurrier, etc. He also has 2 bowl blowouts (Coker and Weiss). You may not agree with his calls, but they work more often than not. If it's luck, then he is the LUCKIEST son of a bitch alive.

Coker and Weiss.

Hmm...

I'd say their stock is a bit down these days.

I didn't know Weiss' was ever really up. ND was grossly overrated last year, everyone knew it going in to the Sugar Bowl. If we didn't smoke them, we would have gotten slammed for it.

Miami, at the time we played them, was a pretty solid team. They began their decline the next season. But let me turn it on you now. If Coker ain't too great, then y'all last title was won because you opponent had a mediocre coach.

Yes, but they had excellent talent.

If its all coaching, you better worry about the asskicking Tressel put on Miles with a Freshman WR playing QB.

Miami 02 = LSU 07?

Seriously, I'm nervous but pumped. I think us getting our asses handed to us last year - and be reminded of it from every single member of the media, every team we played, and all other CFB fans will help prevent it from happening again.

That's what worries me most about this game. OSU will have a serious chip on their shoulders for this game.

Not entirely true. The freshman WR split time at QB with a one-legged sophomore backup qb in that game.

In my mind LSU is a very good football team.

LSU has a lot of experience and depth of talent. They have 14 returning starters off an 11-2 team with upperclassmen at almost every position.

Defensively, they are solid. Their D-Line is as good or better than anything OSU has seen since UF. Dorsey is a stud.

The Offense in my mind is well rounded with a lot of playmakers including Hester, Williams, and Doucet. Then you throw in 2 nice QBS as well.

The LSU coaching staff has had and it appears will have some more brain drain. I am also not sold on Les Miles as a coach. I think inferior teams have hung with or beat LSU. Most times this is a coaching issue. They seem to get their fair share of penalties as well.

Great talent combining speed and physical play. Going into the season, I thought there was some distance between them and the rest of college football. Deserve to be in the NC game, but I don't see them as a step above the pack anymore.

I think Miles is a great coach at preparation but only a so-so gameday coach. His crazy, riverboat gambling worked a couple of times this year, but at some point it'll blow an important game for his team.

Every player on both teams will be pumped for this game. I used to get so pissed when people used to say Coop couldn't get players "up" for the scUM game and the bowl games. If you are not ready to give it a million percent for the national championship game, you don't belong there.

My take on the game is simply this: Just like last year this will be the fastest and best line on both sides of the ball the Bucks have played all year. If they can handle that pressure and give Boeckman time, they win. If not.... see results of last years game, or worse.

I feel it's a homerdome... I feel like teams that play AT LSU get screwed virtually every game by homer refs.. thus I don't like them...

Remember the Earl Bruce comment after the Bucks played in LSU and came out with a tie... something on the order of "Five good ol' boys in stripes took that game away from us." Earl was not that given to bitching, but he exploded after that game. Fortunately the refs will not be from the SEC or Big 10. Unfortunately they could be from the Big East or the Pac 10, some of the worst possible refs out there.
