Just Curious: What's your honest opinion of LSU?

AKAKBUCK;1017875; said:
Yes, but those are against other southern teams.

ND 4-40 LSU 9-95 (in the same building we'll be in come 1/7)

You put us in there and you get:

"In retribution for the burning of Atlanta. Personal foul, on the Yankees. That's a fifteen yard penalty, 3 points for LSU and the ball, FIRST DOWN!"

:wink2:

:slappy:

Don't forget, we get to receive a free kick, then another 15 yards tacked on afterwards.

. The other minor point I would make is that the defense gave up a lot of points to UK (43) and Arkansas (50) but then they showed up and played their guts out against Tennessee, which I didn't really understand.

I know y'all don't want to hear the OT excuse, but:

I hate that OT points (in the college OT system) reflect upon a D. When you give a heisman candidate the ball at the 25 yard line 3 straight possessions, they're gonna score.
In regulation, we held UK to 27 and Arky to 28. Which is below what they average.

In the video, the d-lineman did not realize he had the facemask. He owned up to it and apolgized in person to the player and after the game on tv. There was not excuse for this play and every LSU fan, player and coach was just as upset as USCe. Obviously, some fans will talk and say they think LSU is dirty, but I haven't heard opposing players say anything. Spurrier is the one that start that BS, because he hates LSU and just got his butt kicked. Stems from not getting the HC job at LSU many years back. Having said that the total video does not look good. However, officiating in the SEC is very bad. Saw a few helmet to helmet hits on our guys and hits out of bounds not called during the year. Doesn't mean we think other teams are dirty, sometimes its a players momentum. Personal fouls happen to all team at all levels. I've never heard players from an opposing team bitch about dirty play and in particular UF and AU certainly said the exact opposite and these are our most intense rivals right now. Further, the vast majority of LSU players are in the FCA and will get with the opposing team to thank God after the game.

Further, look at Dorsey after Auburn almost ended his career. He just said he didn't hold a grudge. What class!! You are talking millions had he been injured severely. Most of the LSU guys are like this. In the past, I could not say that about some of the players and teams we had. But I don't like the characterization that this team is dirty. They will hit you, and sometimes momentum type of personal fouls occur, but they do not try to hurt players or make cheap shots.

No doubt that someone who was so inclined could make a similar video for any team in the nation.

Except maybe Notre Dame.....their D can't get close enough to a ball carrier to think about tackling by the facemask.

You're right but Arkansas had no business even being in that game let alone dropping 28, not to mention they scored more in OT on LSU than high school seniors on the prom queen.

But what about 4 straight runs in the UK game? Didn't that strike you as arrogant? I just didn't feel LSU was really having a hard time moving the ball in that game and I thought Les was either being arrogant or he lost faith in Flynn.

We had the opportunity to put Arky to bed early, and didn't do it. McFadden fumbled the opening KickOff, and we only got a FG out of it. Our 2nd posession started around their 35 or 40 as well, and only came away with 3.

Part of me agrees, and part of me doesn't. We were averaging better than 5 yards a carry on the ground in that game. No reason we shouldn't have made that 1st down on the ground. But, with Hester limping to the sideline, we probably should have thrown it to Early. He came on to the field for 2 plays (his first 2 since the Va Tech game) and was only used as a decoy.

I can almost feel your pain, but given the choice between the college OT system and that of the NFL, I'll go the college route everytime.

I like the college one better myself. I just wish there was a way to separate the OT stats. Every so often, we get a Pac-10 guy come around and say "What happened to those great SEC defenses? 50-48 doesn't sound like defense to us"

The absolute dismantling of VT...I'll never forget it

LSU greatly impressed me when I watched them destroy VT. I felt then that I was watching a #1 contender. At that time, the Buckeyes hadn't yet made an impression - rebuilding or reloading???. Midway through the season when OSU was winning impressively and decisively, I felt that the showdown should be between OSU and LSU, but after the losses to the Illini and the Hogs respectively, I didn't think it would or could happen. The stars were lined up perfectly for the right match-up of the season!!!

GEAUX BUCKS - BEAT LSUcks...:osu:

I hear you.....but defense wins championships. OSU proved that in 2002. LSU proved it in 2003.

I think the conflict no-one wants to talk about --- or just hasn't yet --- is the coaching battle.

First of all, I don't think Tress second-guesses himself much, but for the last eleven months I think he has been re-living his NC game prep.

Then, the coach he is competing with here is possibly the next coach at Missagain.

Yes, he beat him in the Alamo Bowl but those poor cowboys just fell apart in the first 15 minutes.

The scUM win two weeks ago was very Woody-like.

So which Tressel are we going to see? Will we be stubborn and stick to the run?? Will we trust in Boeckman?? Will we see the "special plays" the Buckeyes had ready for UM but never needed???

I think Tressel is on a journey to redemption, one that goes through LSU, crushes through Zook land on the way, and ends sometime in the future against Urban Meyer. I think he feels responsible for only two losses in the last few years --- Illinois this year and Florida in january.

So I am hoping for his sake and for the program's sake that he gets it all together, coaching-wise, does his masterful job of pulling the right strings and pushing the right buttons at the right moment, all with his calm demeanor in the middle of the battle field. I want this NC game to be the first episode in that drama, with national announcers and Les Miles himself saying about Tressel, "that guy can coach".

Represent!!

Go BUCKS!

And that is squarely on Les Miles.

Oklahoma St had five possessions in the first quarter and ran 23 total plays. Vernand Morency touched the ball on 5 of them. If feeding him the ball so few times weren't head-scratching enough, consider Morency touched the ball only 3 more times the rest of the game.

I rewatched that game a couple of times too because there were so many Ginn Jr highlights (and Zwick laying the wood on one of them), and I can say that having seen that Alamo Bowl probably 3 or 4 times in its entirety, I'm still not sure what the hell Miles's gameplan was, if he ever had one outside of taking the first bus out of Stillwater to get to Baton Rouge.

I have seen u guys play a couple of times this year just bits and pieces here and there. I did see most of the Va. Tech game and thought that with thought a doubt you were the best team in the country. Big time speed on both sides of the ball is what stood out the most for me. I thought that les miles would be crazy to leave and come up north and try to build a team with coach T. competing with him for recruits.

I would not underestimate Miles. In the last two years, our worst defeat was a 12 point loss at UF last year. Everything else was a TD or less. And in the loss to UF, we got hosed by the officials on two TD runs from the one. End up fumbling and instead of jumping all over their ass by 14, we give them the big mo. Yes, he will make some mistakes, but the team will be prepared.

I was not sold on him after the UT loss his first year, but he has stayed with it and gotten better. I do believe our team is very talented, but its not heads and shoulders above the top 10 teams. There just isn't that much of a difference, so he must be a pretty decent Coach. And the evil genius is Crowton, not Miles. We never pulled shit last year that we have done this year. As far as going for it on 4th down, most agreed with him on 90 -95% of those calls. Les keeps Crowton conservative. If it were up to Crowton we would run the same offense he ran at Oregon.

Then don't let the other team score enough points to force you into overtime.
