Just Curious: What's your honest opinion of LSU?

My honest opinion?

LSU much like it's parent State of Louisiana is filled with demon worshipping, cannibalistic, baby eating, voodoo raised undead and can only be truly cleansed by application of fire & holy water.

Oh and it smells bad too.

Good luck on January 7th.

Here's what I think. I think you're seriously going to have to depend on Hester to win the game. moreso than you have all year long. Our LB's have enough speed that if you try to make the game sideline to sideline, you won't have much luck after the first couple of drives. Up the gut is how you have to take it. To my recollection, our corners and safeties have never been blown past on a bomb pass. Slant passes and missed tackles are really the only way to get huge gains on us from what I've seen in the air.

On the opposite side, we're basically the same setup. We'll need a huge game from the Wells brothers (not related). Beanie needs a 200 yard game here and Mo needs to continue to prove he won't fall down after the first hit. LSU's defense is very aggressive so I'm hoping we can get some nice trick plays for Small and Saine. I expect our TE's to get the ball a lot because i'm expecting double coverage on Hartline and Robiskie.

Depending on which defense shows up (V. Tech Defense or defense for the past 4 games) will decide who wins this game.

Special teams are about even, your kicker is better, OHio State's punter is better. The return games are about even I think.
Don't know where you get this, or what you've seen that would make you think this, but Hartline, Small, Wells, and whoever else we've tried back there have been mostly dependable, but unspectacular (hooray, we returned a punt for a TD vs a MAC school).

Trindon Holliday is the real deal, and seeing as we've given up a couple of KR TDs this year to guys we wouldn't even offer schollies to for being too slow, special teams is honestly my biggest concern.

This is, hands-down, the worst Special Teams unit at OSU under Tressel's tenure, and that's saying something after the kicking issues in 2001.

My honest opinion...

The most talented team in the country, PERIOD. but...

Underachievers. Whether that is attributed to injuries, bad gameday coaching or mental lapses of its players. Or a combination of all 3.

I believe Dorsey is a beast and the biggest key for the Championship game is his health. Will he be 100%? If he is it takes LSU's defense to a different level. He is just that great.

Last year alot of the Ohio State fans up in columbus did not take kindly to my posts on the speed of Florida and the SEC conference as a whole. I live here in the deep south and have learned of the football played here. I was afraid of Florida in the N/C game. With all that said and put aside, I think LSU has the same capabilitys of Florida but minus Tim Tebow.

The offensive line of Ohio State is one of the strongest but certainly not the best. Florida shredded our O-line 11 months ago. They are good but this year they will have to execute better against (ya-all0 as they did against Penn State.

I am surprised that we (Ohio State) have come this far being that we have played with so many untested atheletes but that is Tressel football for you.
He is a good teacher of the game - he has quality coaches to back him up.
And when i mentioned untested players I was thinking of our QB in Todd Boeckman. The running backs of Ohio State are solid and Chris Wells is finally beginning to take the role of a leader on the team. I thnk he is really focused and plays with much more confidence.

Finally the big hurdle Ohio State has to overcome is : Can they beat a quality SEC team. That is one area where we continue to come up short. The SEC owns Ohio State right now. Your conference is certainly the strongest its ever been. I realize that alot of the games Ohio State lost was under the coaching staff of John Cooper but that is no excuse. Under Jim Tressel we are 0 - 2. Parity has finally caught up with college football and it will be extremly difficult to Dub a true national championship until a solid formula can be produced. I think the LSU - OhioState game on Jan 7 will be a good game. May the better team win.

Honest opinion - You'll see that once we get the BuckeyePlanet OSU v. LSU preview together, which I hope you enjoy.

FWIW - I've always kinda liked LSU. I think your current coach is batshit crazy, but I'd just as soon see you guys win the SEC than anyone else. Kind of meaningless, but aside from the faded in Tiger eye at midfield, your field is the coolest in College ball. I wished OSU would have done something similar when they redid the playing surface, with one scarlet and one grey endzone.

When I think of LSU, I think, "Just wear your stupid home uniforms, you goons!" For some reason, the whole thing of wearing your white jerseys at home is annoying to me. Especially on the NCAA video games, where it tries to make LSU (the home team) and the visiting team BOTH wear white jerseys. That's just wrong.

I also think, "Are LSU fans so stupid that they need the line that's between the 20 and 30 yard lines marked with a 25?"

Seriously, though, LSU has looked like the 800-pound gorilla (with a chainsaw for a penis), and they've also looked like they shouldn't even be in the same game as Arkansas or Kentucky. I got the feeling that some of their opponents were lucky to have a close score with LSU, and other times, LSU was the lucky team that the score was close. If LSU plays like they're the 800-pound gorilla, no one is beating them. Their offense is solid (doesn't seem too flashy, but doesn't make mistakes), and their defense is lights-out. Don't know much about special teams, but I understand that they have a solid punter and a solid kicker. However, I don't know if it's the play-calling, or what, but it seems as though LSU's offense can be predictable to opposing defenses. They've run Hester 7 times in a row, and here comes the 8th. Surprise - 0 yards. On defense, they seem to be a bit more consistent, but it seems as though when they're moving backward, they don't / can't stop the other team.

I like this match-up, in that if Ohio State loses, I can be confident it was to a better team. And if they win, it'll be a good win for Ohio State, and I might (MAYBE) get a break from hearing SEC fans complain about how Ohio State doesn't deserve to be in the same bowl with an SEC team.

Agreed 100% especially on the special teams. This use to be one Tressels strong points of coaching.

And he's a good kick-returner I'm not denying that, but he only returned one kick for a TD (against Ole Miss, not exactly on Ohio State's level IMO) and only had, by my count 4 returns, over 30 yards (I might be off one but that's it).

I won't disagree with the "worst Special Teams unit at OSU under Tressel's tenure", but the comparision to LSU is a LOT closer than you are making it out to be.

And if you look at the play by play stats between the two squads it's about dead-even or even slight advantage to Ohio State just based on stats.

LSU has given up a punt return TD, to Alabama which gave Alabama the lead. They gave up over 150 yards in returns (just big ones of over 30 yards) to La Tech, including a 45 and 76 yard return. They also gave up a 50 yard KO return to Tennessee.

LSU commits quite a few penalties on special teams as well, something else to factor in.

I think you guys have a really good team. I think your D-Line most noteably Dorsey has been bangged up and the defense has not been playing up to its full potential. Sure OSU has players dinged to and the rest will help both sides, but a healthy Dorsey adds a ton to your defense.

I really like your running game, and I still think that if you kept using Hester in the Kentucky game and Arkansas game you would have won. But it is hard to disagree with passing when 8-9 people are in the box.

Doucet is a great WR and Byrd is very solid as well. I do think our corners match up very well with them though so that should be a wash.

I do not think you are the world beaters ESpin makes you out to be and are very beatable. Ohio State will absolutley have to bring their A+ game to win though, and should be a great matchup.

Ohio State needs to make sure they do not show up fat on the Oline like year that is for sure. Like every game this game will truly come down to what lines are playing better. Everywhere else I think the teams match up great... What Oline will force its will and what DLine will play great gap football to stop the run and get pressure on the QB during passing downs.

Go Bucks... Can't wait for the game.

IMO LSU is easily the most talented team in the country - but far from the most well coached.

Healthy you are 12-0 and much better than what the nation has been seeing the second half.

Physically I do believe you are the world beaters ESPN makes you out to be. But what I love about CFB is that on any given game day that isn't what matters most.

As much as I hate to say this, I think that's how most Tiger fans see it too. I think part of it is that week 1, we had the most Vanilla playcalling I have ever seen, yet still beat Miss St. by 45 in the rain on the road. Then the following week, we just punched Va Tech right in the mouth and embarrassed them. Knowing that we're capable of putting on the kinda show has kept us high in the ratings. Not putting on that kind of show ever again (not even against Tulane) has Tiger fans wondering why?

I think that's just college football in general this year. So many teams have looked awesome one week only to underachieve so many others. Anyway, we are no exception of course. The Penn St game on the road is a very difficult place to play, especially at night and the Bucks looked incredible that evening. Great play all the way around. Then we play a game like Mich St where seemingly everything went wrong and we didn't look at all motivated. We stop the run all year and then we can't stop anything against Illinois. Then we rebound with absolutely dominating line play against scUM. Inconsistency drives fans crazy. But that's the beauty of college football right? I just hope beyond hope that the very best of The Ohio State University football team shows up in the National Championship game. (As I'm sure you and the rest of the LSU faithful hope the same for your team).

You guys have the potential to be a very dominant football team. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. I saw the VTech game and was completely impressed. I thought, wow this is the team to beat. But then I caught several bits of your games at other times during the year and you looked like a very different ball club. I know a lot of factors are at play there, but honestly I feel as most it seems that this will be a battle fought and won in the trenches. It's gonna be some smash-mouth football mixed in with a few fireworks I'm sure.

I have to say though...I don't think very highly of your coach. Call me crazy, but Les just bothers me. Maybe just that he's an Ohio boy that went to scUM. Or maybe it's his recent whining. I don't know. I just don't like him much. Just my humble opinion of course.

Good luck to your boys. Thanks for being a decent poster in enemy territory!

Very talented athletes, very suspect on-field coaching decisions. The result? Exciting, down to the wire games. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky - all those games had me on the edge of my seat or bar stool, jumping up and down and yelling at the TV. I especially enjoy watching LSU home games at night - the crowd is always electric, very impressive.
