Juniors leaving early - speculation thread

Any thoughts on Whitner? I personally think he'll stay. Safeties don't go high enough to warrant him leaving now.

Whitner could be thinking that his draft status now is as high as it can be, so why risk a career-ending injury or a sub-par season? The fact that safeties don't generally go high in the draft should not be the breaking point. That is, he more than likely wouldn't be a first rounder even if he had a stellar senior campaign.

I love Whitner, and I want him to come back. But he certainly has a decision to make.

I read somewhere that there will be a cap in the signing bonus after this year. Will this come into play for Vince? I think it's yet another reason why Holmes should go.

nj, reggie bush said he hasn't made up his mind, when an hour earlier his parents said the decision was made.

if whitner returns, he might be playing with out Salley & Youboty in the secondary, all three LBs, and two key DL. He will be great next year if he returns, but I think the other defensive stars (especially the back seven who were great in coverage) allowed him to shine his brightest.

Youboty needs another year. Whitner is as ready as he will be.

Young most likely will stay, because of his recent inconsistency when it comes to passing the football. Youbouty will stay, because hes been really suspect at times in pass coverage. Whitner might be ready, but you can always used another year to refine your pass coverage skills. Bush is gone, thats all you need to say about that.

Not sure what the 07 draft class looks like for safeties, but here is the likely competition at safety for whitner (arbitrary list):
1. LaRon Landry*, LSU
2. Michael Huff, Texas
3. Darnell Bing*, USC
4. Bernard Pollard*, Purdue
5. Jason Allen, (CB/S) Tennessee
6. Greg Blue, Georgia
7. Anthony Smith, Syracuse
8. Pat Watkins, Florida State
9. Brian Iwuh, Colorado
10. Chris Harrell, Penn State
11. Jarrad Page, UCLA
12. Greg Threat, Miami
13. Muhammad Abdullah, UK

As a homer, I could see him being #4 behind huff, bing and landry. That still puts him in the 2nd round.

Footballfuture has him at #6
