I wouldn't be surprised to see Coach Haynes leave for a DC position somewhere.
I see NO incentive for Holmes to hang around. He does so many things... blocks for others, pulls the best corner off Gonzales and Ginn, makes the difficult and the easy catch, willing to go across the middle, takes the big hit, holds on to the ball, knows where he is with regard to boundaries, first down marker, goal line, gets open, keeps his mouth shut... that I can't imagine NFL teams not wanting him. Why take another year of buttoned down offense and playing second fiddle to Ginn?
I don't know about that, he's a dynamic player but I see him spending another year here. Had we gone ot the rose bowl thanks to all of his takeaways/stops/etc, then I would be more worried.when i listed the 3 players i didnt even think about santonio....prob b/c im assuming he's gone....i have a feeling whitner might take off, but just a gut feeling
they will put stock into the fact that he has put the ball on the ground a few times, and has done far too much horizontal dancing when he should just accept being stopped and go down (instead of losing 8 more yards). Also, I'm one of the biggest guys on here as far as wanting to see what Ginn can do at corner, but there are tons of shutdown corners out there actually doing it. NFL scouts are not going to be salivating over a kid who hasn't been asked to cover a single college team, let alone a college career of doing so. Any corner looks great in spurts, EJ Underwood was one of the most talented DBs Tressel has seen, but he was inconsistent. Ginn is far from a first rounder right now. He can return to that point, but Santonio is not even a lock for the first round (he should go, but he could slip to round 2).ginn is already a first rounder...he's certainly a first rounder next year barring injury..hes showcased what he can do with the ball on offense, and defensive cordinators prob feel like he could make a shutdown corner with proper teaching.....offensive and defensive cordinators won't put much stock into this years performance, they know what kind of talent he has, and what's been wasted due to poor offensive planning and inability to be allowed to play defense
I agree he leaves, but at no point this season has he been second fiddle to Ginn. Some overeager journalists hyped it up that way, but he was always our #1 WR (Tressel repeated that over the offseason also).I see NO incentive for Holmes to hang around.
