Juniors leaving early - speculation thread

Sort of surprised by some of the comments about Youboty. I wonder if our perception of him isn't similar to the perceptions held during Katzenmoyer's junior year. Is the offense going away from Ashton, giving him fewer opportunities to make big plays? I don't know. Maybe some of you with more coaching knowledge (No sarcasm intended or implied) can fill me in. He still seems to me to make his fair share of big hits, blocked passes and being around the ball when the play ends. The bucks have faced some good receivers and quarterbacks and the defense has consistently met the challenge. No small part of that has to be Youboty's play.

I see NO incentive for Holmes to hang around. He does so many things... blocks for others, pulls the best corner off Gonzales and Ginn, makes the difficult and the easy catch, willing to go across the middle, takes the big hit, holds on to the ball, knows where he is with regard to boundaries, first down marker, goal line, gets open, keeps his mouth shut... that I can't imagine NFL teams not wanting him. Why take another year of buttoned down offense and playing second fiddle to Ginn?

Agreed. I just can't see Holmes hanging around another year. I think this was the year to make the championship run, and next year we'll lose a lot of spectacular players off our defense.

That's an interesting one. He seems to be a good (not great yet) player in college, but I wouldn't put it past someone in the NFL taking him pretty early based on his potential (and his last name.)

I would guess that he will probably stick around. Then again, I don't know enough about scouting to know just how good he is or how good he could become.

when i listed the 3 players i didnt even think about santonio....prob b/c im assuming he's gone....i have a feeling whitner might take off, but just a gut feeling
I don't know about that, he's a dynamic player but I see him spending another year here. Had we gone ot the rose bowl thanks to all of his takeaways/stops/etc, then I would be more worried.
ginn is already a first rounder...he's certainly a first rounder next year barring injury..hes showcased what he can do with the ball on offense, and defensive cordinators prob feel like he could make a shutdown corner with proper teaching.....offensive and defensive cordinators won't put much stock into this years performance, they know what kind of talent he has, and what's been wasted due to poor offensive planning and inability to be allowed to play defense
they will put stock into the fact that he has put the ball on the ground a few times, and has done far too much horizontal dancing when he should just accept being stopped and go down (instead of losing 8 more yards). Also, I'm one of the biggest guys on here as far as wanting to see what Ginn can do at corner, but there are tons of shutdown corners out there actually doing it. NFL scouts are not going to be salivating over a kid who hasn't been asked to cover a single college team, let alone a college career of doing so. Any corner looks great in spurts, EJ Underwood was one of the most talented DBs Tressel has seen, but he was inconsistent. Ginn is far from a first rounder right now. He can return to that point, but Santonio is not even a lock for the first round (he should go, but he could slip to round 2).

I agree he leaves, but at no point this season has he been second fiddle to Ginn. Some overeager journalists hyped it up that way, but he was always our #1 WR (Tressel repeated that over the offseason also).

Marcus Vick will surpass his Brother's successes eventually. Plays a smarter style of Football than his big Bro., but I do see him sticking around for another year.

Youboty and Whitner would benefit greatly from another year of college ball. IMHO

Vick threw 3 picks and 0 tds last week. He's better than his brother, but many overlook the fact that Vick was a pretty meager QB in college. He made up for it with athleticism, but being better than his brother isn't an accomplishment. It is very attractive given his upside and lineage, but he has a lot to prove.

As the announcers highlighted, NC State and Maryland were probably their best opponents thus far, and those aren't that great of teams.

the only reason he is not a sure first rounder is because of his size. everyone knows how talented he is and the route runner he is, but not being the tallest person in the world will kill his stock the most IMO.
