Jordan Hicks (Philadelphia Eagles)

If he has eliminated Ohio State, I commend him for doing so before the stretch in order to allow the Buckeyes to focus on other recruits. It would be disappointing because he's an outstanding young man and terrific football player. But at least he had the class not to lead Ohio State on and drag them out until the very end.

Lifetime consequences

What some young high profile kids from Ohio don't understand when they choose not to take the tOSU offer is the following:

1) When they return home at any point in their lifetime, they are persona non grata. They are irrelevant. They have no recognition whatsoever. There are no relationships because they have permanently severed all relationships because everyone is a Buckeye but them.

2) If there is no NFL career because of injury or some other factor, there is no Buckeye alumni support to get doors opened for a great future or the lifetime support that they would receive to pursue what they want.

3) They would have to go live OOS where they went to college because of where they went to get any help if there is help.

They don't understand these permanent ramifications and the Buckeye Alumni network throughout the state of Ohio. They only begin to understand this about 2 yrs after their decision - when its way too late.

I'm not trying to change minds. I'm just saying the way it is.

Eh, other schools have the same. The thing is leaving your home and establishing one elsewhere. Texas' network is no worse that OSU's, it's just in Texas (mostly, they are everywhere too).

That's my point exactly. A young kid has to understand that he will need to permanently change his residence to the state he goes to college to get that Alumni support because it won't be in Ohio. If his parents and extended family are living in Ohio then he will be away from his family unless they permanently move away with him. If it works out that the kid is a !st round NFL draft picjk and gets a huge contract then he may not need alumni support for his future - but there is no guarantee 3-4 yrs out how it will all work out. There is no NFL guarantee for anyone.

Have you even read this thread; Hicks is NOT from Ohio, he only moved here recently and his Mom is willing to move with him!

That is sooooo not true and there are hundreds of former OH HS athletes that would flat out say you're wrong.

I would have to fully disagree with that, this kid can live wherever he so pleases and be fine. The schools that he has narrowed down to, have networks and alumni anywhere throughout this country! Texas has an enormous fanbase, just like tOSU, and I'm sure there are a number of fans of other teams living throughout OH, either they moved here because of jobs, gfs/wives, etc., its just a sport. If this kid goes to a school OOS and maybe doesn't make it to the NFL, he will be fine wherever he lives. You're making a big deal over nothing. Players ALL the time go to college OOS and come back and are worshipped like they never left. I don't know who you know, but this happens a lot, especially with kids who are under-privileged and their only shot at a quality education is playing sports. There are a number of Glenville players I'm sure that haven't made the NFL and went somewhere out of OH and are welcomed with open arms back to Cleveland. Nukeese Richardson who was kicked off of the Tennessee team went back to Pahokee, FL and the community welcomed him back, I know there are numbers of players who got their education outside of the state they went to HS and went back home after college and were worshipped. So I have no clue what you're talking about, this kid(along with many other HS atheletes) will be fine, and will be always be welcomed back to Cincy and Ohio in general.
