Jordan Hicks (Philadelphia Eagles)

Hicks will be in Columbus Sept. 12
Posted by mdyer August 31st, 2009

Lakota West senior LB Jordan Hicks said this morning he will be in Columbus on Sept. 12 for the Ohio State-USC game. Hicks didn?t see whether Ohio State would be an unofficial or official visit.

Hicks and Lakota West coach Larry Cox held the first media teleconference this morning at the school.

Hicks answered questions from reporters from area publications along with Web sites that included Rivals.com, Bucknuts.com, Columbus Dispatch, ESPN.com and TriStatefootball.com.

Hicks, who is rated the nation?s No. 2 player overall in the 2010 class by ESPNU, is still considering (no particular order) Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, USC and Florida.

Hicks had nine solo tackles and 12 total tackles in the 7-6 loss to Clayton Northmont last Friday. Laktoa West plays host to Lancaster Friday night.

?It was frustrating because we prepared all summer for it,? Hicks said. ?We had it in our mind we were going to win. We just have to get better.?

Hicks also told reporters he is considering early graduation from high school. He isn?t sure whether he will play basketball this winter.

?I?m still in deciding stage,? Hicks said. ?My schedule is set up if I decide to I can go ahead and graduate early.?

Hicks holds first ever teleconference
Tuesday, September 1, 2009

Posted by Bill Kurelic

On Monday morning Under Armour All-American linebacker Jordan Hicks (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) participated in a teleconference, answering questions from recruiting analysts and media from across the country.

Lakota West athletic director Todd Hummer, coach Larry Cox and Hicks decided to begin holding a teleconference every Monday because of the high volume of requests to interview Hicks.

For good or bad, depending on how you look at it, recruiting has truly come a long way. I have covered prep football recruiting for close to 25 years and this is the first time I can recall a weekly teleconference being set up.

To say interest in prep football recruiting has never been higher might be an understatement.

Hicks has narrowed his list of dozens of scholarship offers down to six schools, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Florida, Alabama and Georgia. On the conference call there seemed to be at least one person asking questions in regards to each of the six schools Hicks is considering, and in some cases multiple persons.

Hicks said his reported official visits to Ohio State the weekend of Sept. 12 and Texas the week of Oct. 10 have not been finalized. Whether or not he makes an official visit to Ohio State on Sept. 12, Hicks said he will be in Columbus that day to watch the Buckeyes play USC. He will be joined by almost every other top prospect the Buckeyes are recruiting.

Wad,

I'm sure the staff would love to see the USC visit be an unofficial visit so they would be able to bring him back in later in the year on his official with the hopes of getting the last look by making OSU his last trip before he decides.

That said..if comes in unofficially for USC can OSU still give him tickets to the game?

TSN: Recruiting Finally Comes to This: Teleconferences

Hicks has to deal with interview requests from not just Rivals, Scout, and ESPN but the zillion team-specific sites the former two have plus the occasional nose-holding newspaper, ESPN affiliate, uppity blog, or beast-mode message board that dips into recruiting from time to time. There must be at least 20 different organizations trying to get Hicks on the record with his latest thoughts about his top six (Texas, USC, Ohio State, Florida, Alabama and Georgia, if you're wondering).

A man can only answer so many repeat questions and get in his Rich Rodriguez-demanded 80 hours a week. If I was a big-time football recruit with a phone that never stopped ringing, I would set up a similar system immediately.

ESPN: Checking in with top undecided recruits

Jordan Hicks, LB, (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West)
Hicks is supposed to be on campus at Ohio State this weekend, when the Buckeyes play host to Southern California. It is up in the air if the visit is going to be official or unofficial. Texas, who is believed to be the other major player for the nation's No. 2 prospect, is currently scheduled to get an official visit on the weekend of Oct. 10, when the Longhorns play host to Colorado. Ohio State has an excellent shot to land Hicks, but it's not as much of a slam dunk as it typically is with a talented in-state player. Hicks is not originally from Ohio, so he doesn't have the lifelong ties to the program that others do.

Cincinnati Enquirer: Lakota West Football Update

Lakota West senior LB Jordan Hicks missed this week?s media teleconference because of possible strep throat, according to Lakota West coach Larry Cox. Hicks is probable for Friday?s game vs. Hamilton.

Hicks, rated the nation?s No. 2 player in the 2010 class by ESPNU, took an official visit to Ohio State on Saturday. Cox said Hicks enjoyed the visit and received plenty of attention from Ohio State fans at the game.

Lakota West senior linebacker Jordan Hicks, one of the nation?s top players in the 2010 class, did not play because of illness but was dressed in uniform.

?Jordan was out with an undisclosed illness tonight,? Lakota West sports information director Todd Hummer said. ?He has been tested for a few different things, like strep throat, but we don?t know for sure what he has because the results haven?t come in yet. He dressed on the sidelines tonight but didn?t play. Jordan is expected to play next week.?

What would seem like a tough decision for West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West head coach Larry Cox to keep Under Armour All-American linebacker Jordan Hicks out of the Firebirds' game on Friday was actually quite easy.

Hicks, the 6-foot-2, 200 pound ball hawk rated as the No. 2 overall prospect on the ESPNU 150, battled a sore throat and, as Cox mentioned during Hicks' weekly media conference call on Monday, the talented tackler had lost some weight due to the sickness.

Despite Hicks telling Cox before the game that he was ready to play, Cox said he just could not take the gamble of risking Hicks' health.

"We have had some cases of mono going around the school and with his immune system already battling, we couldn't risk him getting mono and becoming even sicker," Cox said. "We have a system that the next man needs to be ready and even though Jordan wanted to play, we had some guys step and do a great job."

Hicks missed some time in the classroom last week as he was out sick and arrived for the conference call shortly after getting some extra help in math class to catch up. He said that missing the game was a tough experience to deal with but he understood why he was held out of action.

"It was difficult (to sit out) but I didn't want to risk getting sicker," Hicks said. "So I sat out and let the team take over."

Hicks became ill coming off of a weekend official visit to Ohio State as the Buckeyes hosted USC and feeling better Hicks made his second recruiting trip in as many weeks with an unofficial visit to Gainesville, Fla. Hicks was at "The Swamp" for the highly-anticipated Florida-Tennessee game and the Gators, one of Hicks' top six schools, made a good impression on Hicks and his mother.

"It was a good visit," Hicks said. "I got to meet with the coaches and put a face with a name from some of the guys that I have been talking to so it made it more of a personal relationship.

"My mom, she liked the atmosphere," Hicks added. "She liked the coaches and she was really impressed with coach (Urban) Meyer."
