It's not just the South. I've seen the entire city of Seattle shut down for what might have been an inch of snow.
I just PCS'd (moved) from Anchorage to Little Rock this summer. Its raining out right now and the temps are going to be below 32 (freezing). They are freaking out so much that all flying has been canceled for tomorrow, the base will be stripped to minimum manning, and grocery stores are being depleted. It could be 6-8 inches of snow with no plowing being done on the local roads in Alaska and we were still expected to be in on time for our flights. lol. The south never seems to amaze me.
Seeing as central florida is primarily populated by people from Ohio and tsun, snow worries few. One community was so populated by people from northeast ohio that there is a street and elementary school named after the toledo blade. When I was at UVA, the school shut down on days when snow was predicted.
I live in Little Rock too. I WILL say that driving in Freezing rain is FAR more challenging than snow. And the power outages it causes are something that can get severe.I just PCS'd (moved) from Anchorage to Little Rock this summer. I've driven in plenty of snow without issue, but ice-not so much.
Hell, I live in Aurora, COLORADO and they still mess it up. I assume it is the transplants the F it up on the road. The weather guessers here are funny as hell. They predict 6-16 inches and we end up with a whopping 2 inches.
There are a lot of transplants in CO, and NONE of them know what to do when it snows.Hell, I live in Aurora, COLORADO and they still mess it up. I will say I lived in Slaton Texas one winter..It was crazy..snow on the road and people were steaming up to stop signs then slid through scary. We had an ice storm and they were asking people to stay off the roads..it was great no traffic on the roads drove to the bars in Lubbock the roads were like a ghost town. Illinois prepares you for winter driving because we lack the money for great road care.Haha if you've never lived in a place that doesn't receive snow/ice regularly..
Its a fucking nightmare... There aren't salt trucks/snow plows, the freeway interchanges/exits are usually frozen because instead of building close to the ground in cloverleafs they use flyovers that go up 200ft in the air. Generally noone but the transplants know how to drive in the stuff, and they are all staying home because of the dumbasses that have no clue are out on the roads.
make fun all you want... if its icy out.. my ass is at home because some yahoo who's lived in Texas or Cali all their lives think it still safe to do 80 on the interstate
