Johnny Manziel (unemployed)

Johnny Manziel to play second season in Fan Controlled Football, says traditional pro career 'in my eyes is over'

Johnny Manziel is returning for the second season of a professional league known as Fan Controlled Football, he told ESPN.

The league, which plays a 7-on-7 format in an Atlanta indoor facility, is scheduled to resume games April 16. It incorporates fan engagement in a blend of traditional and esports environments and is broadcast primarily on Twitch.

Manziel told ESPN that his formal football career "in my eyes is over" but that the FCF is something "I wanted to do for fun." He has friendships with a number of the league's celebrity owners, including comedian/podcaster Bob Menery and rapper Quavo.

"This is a way to go out and compete and have fun on a way smaller scale," Manziel said. "I don't have the drive to play football at a high level anymore. I don't have a drive to be the best football player anymore that I used to have in my life, and I'm OK with that. I've come to terms with what my football career was, and what it is, and now I'm trying to figure out how I can stay entangled in the game, but from a different position.

He said in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had abused alcohol while living with depression.

"I don't have the drive to play football at a high level anymore. I don't have a drive to be the best football player anymore that I used to have in my life, and I'm OK with that."Johnny Manziel

Just sayin': I'm not sure that he ever had that drive, especially in Cleveland.

Dude literally thought he could just wing it in the NFL.

It's funny in one sense, but it's also ridiculous. This dude had the tools but was too fucking stupid to do the work, and he still doesn't get it.

I always thought it was obvious that Evans was the star on that team.
But the Browns saw hungover Johnny throwing to his agent and lawyer in a private workout, and said "that's for us".
The Browns are the butt of this joke, as always.

Only because everyone else in the Cowboys draft room opposed Jerry Jones, and he reluctantly, gave up.

"Son, I hope you're happy," Jerry said. "But let me tell you something: You don't get to own the Cowboys, you don't get to do special things in life, by making major decisions going right down the middle. And that" -- taking an offensive lineman over Johnny Football -- "was right down the middle."

Dumbass Jerry was mad that no one else is the room wanted Johnny Football. Why haven't the Cowboys sniffed a title in 28 years? I give you Jerry Jones.

They tried to make the magic of a lazy, substance abusing QB work again with Baker Mayfield. I don’t think the Browns make very good decisions.

I thought the same thing, Evans made him look good. He didn't have the arm or the athleticism to play in the NFL. Out of all the QB's they drafted over the years Manziel was the worst, which I told everyone from the minute they drafted him. Noted I haven't been a fan of any QB they have drafted this century. Baker was pretty much a less intitled Manziel, but was still out getting BJ's behind the Cheesecake Factory at Crocker Park. It's almost impossible to be that bad at drafting QB's on accident.

Tim Couch? Quinn was close. But I guess it's like arguing Hitler, Stalin and Sadam as world leaders.

I found Johnny entertaining as hell and he had some Mahomes-esque playmaking talent in college in creating plays. That's where the comparison ends obviously. The documentary was really great I thought, but had no idea the extent of his issues...knew it was bad, just not THAT bad. I mean, trying to find a flight home from Vegas the night before a game you're supposed to start? Yikes.

Brady Quinn, for all his over-rated ND history, was at least a professional. An tryhard professional without the talent for NFL, but that's how low the bar is when we talk about Browns QBs.

Now we have the QB version of Robert Kraft.

So... to illustrate your point, I'd like to use this thread as evidence. There's a discussion about the worst quarterback drafted by the Browns. I mean, let's just look at first round picks. It isn't fair to compare anyone to a 3rd round or 6th round or whatever.

2018 - Mayfield
2014 - Manziel
2012 - Weeden
2007 - Quinn
1999 - Couch

Put those guys in whatever order you want to. #1 was the worst player and #5 was the best.
Do the same with any other team going back to 1999 (I picked that year because that's the year the Browns came back). Say you make a "worst 5" list of the Browns and that other team. How many of the players on that list are Browns? Is there a team/situation where the Browns don't get 3 on that list?

I mean, it's not like they're just bad with the Browns, and they go somewhere else and then they're good.
Mayfield - I guess technically we need to say it's too soon for a verdict, but I doubt he does much with anyone else.
Manziel - no NFL, some CFL, but not much, after the Browns.
Weeden - Looks like he had decent stats with the Cowboys after the Browns in 4 games, but not much else.
Quinn - He played in 10 games for KC in 2012, with a 2-8 TD-INT ratio.
Couch - Nothing after Cleveland. I still say that he had a raw deal, as he had no offensive line. But whatever - you rank him where you want.

So... yeah... the Browns don't make very good decisions.

Watched the whatever it was. Documentary?

Regardless, I thought the one person besides Manziel that came off the worst was Kliff Kingsbury. It seemed like he admitted he was okay with anything Manziel did as long as he won games for them. At least Sumlin was smart enough to not be interviewed. Makes me appreciate a coach like Day who seems to give a crap about his players beyond what they can do for him.
