Johnny Manziel (unemployed)

Another great quote from Deadspin's Tim Marchman:
Not long ago, backstage at a country music concert, the two Manziels hung out with some of Johnny's friends. There was Uncle Nate, a high school teammate named Bryan and Johnny's buddy Colton from College Station. Everyone stood around, the band warming up. Without so much as a nod, the Crotch Shot Ninjas struck: Paul punched Nate in the nuts, and, simultaneously, Johnny kicked Bryan and hit Colton, both in the balls, both at the same time, and as the three dudes doubled over and the band howled in laughter, Johnny and Paul gave each other a fist bump. Mission accomplished.
In that anecdote you can see the future of America: a rich douchebag and his jackass son kicking their flunkeys in the balls, forever. It's a nice bit of reporting that buttresses some of the other nice reporting here. A man who would do this, and raise a son who would do this, is exactly the sort who would buy all the drinks for a son who's giving every sign of having a serious drinking problem. It kind of explains Johnny Football.

Ah, you're being too tough on poor Johnny--that's just college kids being college kids.

Clearly a display of SEC speed and being able to nut-punch in space.

Can you imagine the amount of documents and evidence both Texas A&M and Manziel's representatives (and family) have been shredding these past couple weeks?

Probably moving money around too (discreetly).

More wisdom from ESPN's PTI and Around the Horn gang, where this remains the fault of the NCAA for denying student athletes the right to make money off their own name. Oh, and Johnny is cracking from all the pressure put on him by his notoriety.

Two questions:
1. Does the NCAA force athletes to accept scholarships?
2. If there is no NCAA, wouldn't the college's have to create one?

ESPN sounds like the Jets singing "Gee Officer Krupke."

"Signing Star"

Johnny was a schoolboy when he signed his first autograph,
A fifty dollar bill I think it was for. From there it didn't take him long.
Got himself a wrist brace, used to sign every night,
Now he's in an aggy outfit,

And everything's all right, don't you know?

Johnny told his mama, hey, 'Mama, I'm goin' away. I'm gonna hit the big
time, gonna be a big star someday', Yeah.
Mama came to the door with a bourbon in her hand.
Johnny said, 'Don't cry, mama, and smiled and flashed a grand'.

Don't you know, yeah yeah, Don't you know that you are a signing star,
Don't you know, don't you know. Don't you know that you are
a signing star, And the ebay world will love you just as long,
As long as you are.

Johnny won a Heisman, Went straight up to number one,
Suddenly everyone loved to watch him sign his name.
Watching the world go by, surprising it goes so fast.
Johnny looked around him and tweeted, 'Well, I made the big time at last'.

Don't you know, don't you know, Don't you know that you are
a signing star,
Don't you know, oh, yeah, Don't you know that you are
a signing star, yeah,
And all the memorabilia dealers will love you just as long,
As long as you are, a signing star.

Don't you know that you are a signing star, Don't you know, yeah,
Don't you know that you are a signing star, now,
And Uncle Nate will love you just as long, As long you are you.

Johnny died one night, died in his Benz, Bottle of whiskey,
steering wheel in his hand. Johnny's life passed him by like a
warm jar of jizz, If you listen to texags you can still hear their cries

Oh oh oh, Don't you know that you are a signing star,
Don't you know, yeah, don't you know', Don't you know that
you are a signing star,
Don't you know, yeah,
Don't you know that you are a signing star,
Don't you, don't you,
don't you, don't you,
Don't you know, don't you
know, oh, yeah, you are,
Yeah, a signing star, yeah, oh
oh oh oh oh......
Don't you, don't you know
that you are a signing star,
Don't you don't you know......

The notoriety ESPN helped to create?

The NCAA is the colleges.

And yet those same ESPN mouth-breathers will toss the OSU players under the bus for trading signatures and memorabilia for tats. Somehow cash is OK but tats are not.

So I'm with Ord on this but for a different reason. Apparently there is a law in the state that if you knowing help someone commit an NCAA violation you can be sued. So if the dealers and brokers talk they open themselves up to being sued by Aggy U
