Jimmy Clausen (Baltimore Ravens)

What do you think of his video bn44820? Do you think he is worth the hype?

I saw the bit on ESPN about Jimmy. His practice regimen is unreal. He has all the tools...it's just a matter of whether or not he can translate those skills into being a good leader on the football field. At this age he reminds me of Chris Simms. We'll see if he develops better than Simms did.

Well, "worth the hype" is a relative term in my opinion. He displays all the tools to be a very good quarterback, he has the size and arm strength and its obvious that he knows the game of football.

His videos are very impressive but the quarterback position is such a crap shoot when going from high school to college, it will be a matter of how he adjusts to the difference in speed at the next level.

I am not a quarterback talent evaluator, but I would think given his skills, talent level and intangibles, he very well could be a top quarterback in college after a couple of years.

What are your thoughts Wadc.....

I haven't see the videos on Scout yet but I can tell you this...he can make all the throws. He spends countless hours with his personal QB coach working on his release, footwork, vision and stamina. He is going to be a great threat in the pocket with the ability to move around when needed. He is remarkably efficient with his throws, meaning he doesn't use a lot of wasted motion delivering the ball. I saw a line a few weeks ago where he played a little over two quarters in a game and was 7 of 9 for 250+ yards and 4 TDs. He has the size to be sucessful as well...something Simms I thought lacked. Simms had the height but never had the frame to take a hit and deliver a throw with some authority. Clausen can do that...

You don't have a 58/6 TD/INT ratio as a sophmore without being pretty darn good...

Clausen Wins Another Title

By Phil Kornblut
QB Jimmy Clausen (6-3 190) of Westlake Village, CA recently completed his junior season leading his team to a 13-0 record and a third straight state championship. Clausen finished the season with 2800 passing yards with 30 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. For his career he's passed for 7300 yards and 97 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. His touchdown figure is third best in state history. And keep in mind Clausen is only playing about half the time because most of his games are blowouts. Four schools, and possibly five, remain firmly in the competition for Clausen according to his coach Bill Redell. The four are USC, Notre Dame, Southern Cal and California. A possible fifth contender is Michigan. Redell said he's not sure when Clausen wants to make a decision but he thinks it will be before his senior season.

[Randy Sanders resigned.../QUOTE]

But they got Cutcliffe back. Maybe they'll get back into it again. Maybe he just does not want to go the same place as his brothers. Time will tell.

While Cutcliffe was a very good hire, Sanders was the connection to the Clausen family. There were already some hard feelings over the way Rick has been played, and when Sanders resigned that did them in for good. IMO it is a ND/USC race with the other USC as the dark horse.

Clausen was suppossed to graduate from high school last year....

His parents didnt put him in kindergarten untill after he turned 6. And they made him repeat the 6th grade to gain "maturity". They did this with all the Clausen kids. I read this in an SI article on Clausen about a month ago....

Possible Pecking Order For Clausen

By Phil Kornblut
Highly prized junior QB Jimmy Clausen (6-3 190) of Westlake Village, CA appears to have an order of preference for the schools he's considering. Clausen's coach, Bill Redell, said Monday "I think it's Notre Dame first, Southern Cal second, and South Carolina and Michigan tied for third, but I really don't know." Redell pointed out that the Gamecocks haven't been allowed to talk to Clausen in some time because of sanctions for contacting him too soon. Clausen attended Junior Day at Notre Dame and will attend Tennessee's Junior Day this weekend along with seven of his teammates.
