Nobody is arguing that. The point is simply that our offense could and should be so much more than it is.

That's team... my argument is with the offensive play calling and utilization of talent.

That's what I assume, which is fine if you're ranking yards per game, but a single stat does not provide enough info to be considered a meaningful comparison of offenses overall. Ranking offenses is either completely subjective or it should at least be based on some complex formula that accounts for a variety of offensive stats. I can live with not dominating the yards/game discussion since I know our offenses are about more than that simple stat.

I may be hopelessly naive, but I'm not really in "OMG WE SUCK!" mode... (Not saying you are...)

I've just accepted this isn't a NC calibur team... I can live with that for 2009. I'm not happy about it... but, it is reality. I'm moving forward.

True. But there is no way around the fact that offensively we have underperformed. It's been 5 years since it bit us against a bad opponent. It bit us this year. I hope we can learn from it.

I understand that it would be great for every season to rack up stats like the 2006 Heisman offense, but you're overstating your point here. 2005 and 2007 (All-Big10 QB Boeckman) were very good offenses that averaged over 30/game, and 2002 and 2008 came pretty close even with only 1 player on offense. 2001 and 2004 were the only subpar offensive Tressel years IMO.

See I guess I am in somewhat of a disagreement with you listing just 2001 and 2004 as the only two years that Tressel has had subpar offenses. I dont necessarily take "Potent offense" as necessarily being one that just dominates the stat sheet or can come close to scoring 30, etc. I think that people are just frustrated with the fact that if needed, this offense and offensive scheme just dont seem to be able to actually win a game by itself if the defense, or special teams arent "On" for that specific game. To me a potent offense is one that can dominate an opponent. Eat up clock with long drives, take the ball down field at will when needed and punch it in, big points and stats are byproducts of the two. Im not saying that is all it takes to be "Potent" but if the offense would be able to just take advantage of one more opportunity here, or would be able to sustain a longer drive than a 3 to 5 play series that eats a whole 3 minutes up off the clock, then I think that alot of peoples criticisms would be put to rest. I guess I just don't see how anyone can really say that we have truely had a great or even a good offense for more that 1 or 2 years total of Tressels tenure. He is a great ambassador for TOSU, along with a great man and coach. He just needs to be willing to not overly micromanage everything and loosen the reigns on who can call the plays. We blame YOUTH, EXECUTION, PENALTIES, etc, but year in and year out the players change. The only constant is the offensive coaches. Im not asking for Tressel to be fired or anything, so for all who are wanting to jump down by throat, dont. I just want to know why the defense never seems to have these issues year in and year out? Tressel doesnt overly micromanage that side of the ball and its been successful more often that not......just my thoughts on the issue is all.
