Consider my hand raised.

I may be hopelessly naive, but I'm not really in "OMG WE SUCK!" mode... (Not saying you are...)

I've just accepted this isn't a NC calibur team... I can live with that for 2009. I'm not happy about it... but, it is reality. I'm moving forward.

If tOSU beats Michigan this year, it will be over 2500 days between tOSU's last loss to TSUN and their next opportunity for revenge.

That IS my dream coach. Any decision he makes is ok with me. He could bench the whole fucking offense.

Speaking of coaching... Going in to the Purdue game, Ohio State was giving up just 12 a contest... Ohio State's pathetic O scored 18... enough to win. Shouldn't we be blaming the defense?

Just sayin...

Well, if the O hadn't put the D in some awful positions with the TOs...

Just sayin

Tressel's game management scheme revolves around not ever being down by more than 10 or so points. They rarely are, so it's very effective. But when it does happen, they don't seem to have answers purely from the offense.

Right. And that's the point, I think. Tressel's game management scheme is very effective. OSU got bit on Saturday. It happens.

Well, if this is actually a serious post..

The offense scored 18 minus the 6 off of turnovers, 2 field goals that were kicked when the ball was turned over in field goal range

That's 12 net points scored by the offense

You throw in the short fields off of other turnovers and our lack of capitalization off the turnovers that we recovered and you can easily see where the offense is to balme

If you're game plan involves defense/special teams scoring more then your offense it's not that good of a game plan. You try to minimize mistakes and make less then your opponent (which we didn't saturday but did against wiscy) but you can't expect opponents to just keep handing you points like Wisconsin did

I feel like Tressel is having a real identity problem right now. People have gotten fed up with his conservative approach after the past few years, and he's trying to change... he's just not very good at doing so.

Think about it: most decisions from 2001-2008, Tressel was reliably, consistently conservative. But this year we've seen him take some very unusual risks which have blown up in his face, most notably involving clock management. Yesterday we again saw him take a risk by throwing a pass when we could've run out the clock in the second half, and it resulted in Purdue kicking a FG to take the lead before the half. Same type of thing happened in our other loss this year, against USC.

Seems to me like Buckeye fans are reaping what they've sown. Don't want Tressel to be so conservative? Here 'ya go! Happy now?

Not really fair to expect the defense to clean up the offense's mess in every single game though, is it?

Well said.

Well, part of JT's offensive philosophy is to use the punt (an offensive down) as a tool of the defense. So our offense really should get some credit. It's almost like football is a...how do I put this..."Team Game". Yeah, football is a team game. You can quote me.

I guess I just don't see how anyone can really say that we have truely had a great or even a good offense for more that 1 or 2 years total of Tressels tenure.

See, this is exactly the way a perhaps valid critique gets too worked up and goes too far to actually remain valid. Not even a good offense except 2006 and maybe one other year? C'mon, man, maintain some perspective here...

True, but that philosophy also includes mistake free-offense, so I'd think that 4 turnovers is far from ideal. :wink2:

But I do agree, the defense gave up huge chunks of yardage in the game. As easy at it would be to try to pin the blame on one part of the team or one player or one coach, they are a team, and it needs to be understood that the team shares the responsibility for the loss. Can't pin it all on the offense.

Wow...your abilty to spin and sprinkle with bs has reached a new level.

Sorry to come across hostile earlier at you man, it just seemed like you are getting on Tress a bit much over one game. [censored] happens, teams lose, this is the joy of looking forward to college football during the off season because of the ups and downs.

No problem, I didn't lose any sleep over it.

Yes, I was getting on Tress, whether you or someone else felt it was a bit much, well then ok, that's you're opinion. I respect yours and I hope you'll understand mine. I agree with you that [censored] does happen, obviously teams lose, and that is very much a part of college football. I don't expect Coach Tressel to win every single game, but I do expect him to win this game versus Purdue. To be quite honest, I'm most upset because it wasn't even a close game. Had OSU not shot themselves in the foot 5 times, and they were just flat getting beat by a highly motivated team, I can easily take that to the bank. I just can't understand how poorly they played and how equally as poorly the coaching staff didn't prepare or adjust during the game. Everyone has bad days, Saturday was one of them for OSU.

You're stationed in Tuscon? I used to live in Sierra Vista (Fort Huachuca(sp?)) many years ago. I miss it down there, beautiful country.
