Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

I was responding to a suggestion that the school honor him for his contributions to the university. Hence, my references to the best interests of the program.

No one, most certainly me, was telling you that you needed to "keep resenting" him for anything. Hell, I don't resent him. I do, however, put the best interests of the program ahead of any appreciation I have for his contributions to it during his tenure.

Given that the NCAA sanctions haven't even been announced yet it is too soon for the university to be publicly honoring him for anything.
JMO but he doesn't deserve any honors after what he did to tOSU. All of what he achieved was washed away by the tsunami of what he did.
Unless of course you have some proof that he didn't know he should have gone further with the info he recieved.

Beanie Wells thinks Tressel would be great for ASU
By John Boes/Arizona Sports
Published: November 29, 2011

PHOENIX - Many names have already been thrown out as potential head coach candidates for the ASU job, but Cardinals running back Beanie Wells believes his former coach Jim Tressel would be a good fit in Tempe.

"If I was ASU, I would jump on him immediately. He's a good football coach and would work wonders for the program," said Wells on the Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf show Tuesday.

Tressel was forced to resign back in May amid allegations of rules violations during the 2010 season.

While Wells was quick to point out Tressel's accomplishments, he also said it would be prudent for ASU to be cautious.

"With any situation, you want to be cautious and see the sanctions and the penalties he's going to have to face," said Wells.

Tressel is an intriguing name and would be a major splash if ASU were to hire him, but it's hard to say if he's learned his lesson because the last thing ASU needs is a major scandal in a few years.

I don't agree. I highly doubt JT did anything that half the coaches at big time schools have done to cover up small violations. He tried to protect his players and ended up getting thrown on the grenade for them. During his time at OSU JT did more for the program than the past year of shit has undone. You can do things the right way, but if a player at a big time college wants a handout they will find someone to give it to them and it will be hard for a head coach to stay on top of all of it. I would much rather deal with a few players getting a few thousand dollars in handouts and free tattoo's than a player's dad getting $186K from boosters or a head coach knowing that he has a pedophile roaming the locker room for 40 years and doing nothing about it.
My plan would be to sit on JT through the Meyer era and then have Fickell take the program over in 7 to 10 years. Hang up "Tressel" in the stadium in Luke's first season back as the head coach preferably against scum.

Please. Tressel brought this program to heights not seen since the Woody Hayes era. The fact that we even have Urban Meyer here is a testament to this.

Tressel has done infinitely more good than bad for tOSU.

You forget that Hayes had major violations attributed to him while here, and Tressel didn't fucking cold-cock an opposing player on national television like Hayes did. And yet the athletic center in which on players train still bears Hayes' name and Tressel deserves nothing?

I was listening to Gene Smith on Sirius this morning....just talking about being prepared for when a coach exits. He indicated, much as other BP gestapos have, that JT had discussed retiring (possibly) after 2012 anyway. So, while I know no one would like going out the way he did, it's hard to think of him wanting to coach somewhere since he already thought he was near the end of it.

You are joking, right? I think you are confusing JT's situation with JoePa's.

Ten years from now this will be a minor blip on the screen. By that time there should be a building on the campus named after JT.

I could see him coaching at a smaller program with less pressure to win every single game. Kind of like what Earle Bruce did after he was fired.

Agree or not, eventually JoePa will be looked on with rose colored glasses in hind-sight. It isn't like ignoring helpless children in peril are like the actions of the dispicable Pete Rose, betting on Baseball... /sarcasm
