Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Player bashing isn't allowed on this forum, but my [censored]ing god, there are certain players (both former and current) whom I wish had never become part of this team.

This. JT thrived by recruiting the right type of kids. He decided to go after a kid that was at the least "of questionable character" and at worst, a real problem kid.
JT was too caring and too forgiving to bring the types of players in that can ruin a program. I would love to see JT finish out his career at a Baldwin Wallace or something where he would be a great fit. The kids and the brand of football are a better fit for him IMO.

About the only thing to say is "what a terrible mess for everyone involved."

i just realized I was 13 years old when he was hired, holy crap...what a decade coach

I just realized I was 51 when he was hired. For those with a lesser perspective you have no idea what a decade this has been.

And for the record - since Wes Fesler resigned in 1950 every OSU coach has at least two things in common.

The are in the CFB HOF and OSU has fired them (call this what you will).

I hope Buckeye Nation remembers this sentiment the next time tOSU suffers a blowout loss in a high profile game.

I think those losses may have affected Coach Tressel far more than we know.

How much more stuff has to come out before we dispose of this myth? He took on questionable kids at a rate not too dissimilar from any other major program. The willingness to do so has caught up to him just like it has caught up to just about everybody else in the form of crime, academic misconduct or NCAA violations.

Myth? Not saying there hasn't been stuff going on for years but there is definitly a person that has been very bold about things. Hey, I get it, stuff goes on at every major program but there is an unwritten rule that you keep your mouth shut about it.

And Ray Small doesn't matter in this scenario. He's just... Ray Small

If my daughter was older, I'd work up some tears right now. That way, when she was older, she could tell everyone "I've only seen my dad cry seven times in my whole life. Once, when Jim Tressel resigned as head coach of The Ohio State University, and the other six were after each of Coach Fickell's six National Championships. That's right, not even when his parents died. He's a strange motherfucker".

This is a horribly sad day.

Although its the culmination of several issues, and many have expected it, this is still fucking terrible.

I realize there are some people who need to lash out at coach and put themselves on some type of pedestal, but for god's sake, can we keep from bashing him?

I hope the posters that bash Tressel are dealt with as quickly and as abruptly by the mods as when players are bashed. In this whole situation the bashing of Tressel has been allowed to go to far.
