Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

How is that ironic? What does Big Ten expansion have to do with Tressel's actions?

I find it ironic that Osborne's defending JT, but without the addition of Nebraska into the conference the emails may have never been discovered, so he wouldn't need anyone to defend him.

He still would have committed the violation, but it's very possible nobody would have found out about it. As I mentioned, it was a tOSU staffer researching something about Big Ten expansion in January, 2011 that discovered the emails that were sent to JT last spring.

Can you imagine what that discovery was like to the poor staffer? I bet once he/she caught their breath and realized what that first e-mail was - they stood immobilized for an hour, and then went home and stared at the ceiling until daybreak.

If Cicero got death threats after being ID's for just sending some e-mails, imagine the staffer who had to go to a boss and say "I have this information about Coach Tressel..." - knowing full well what that meant for the entire S&G community in the near future. You have to applaud the honesty of the staffer and the University. That is a big reason for mitigation of penalties for tOSU in the upcoming proceedings.
