Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

Ugh, this is sad to see. Other coaches have remained for doing far more, and imo the media has blown this whole event up into a frenzy and helped stir the pot. JT is a stand up coach, mentor, and guy in general, it should have never gotten to this. It's not like there were any previous strikes on his record, this is a damn shame.

It was very easy for ME to say "I can't see him surviving this" and "I bet the NCAA suspends him for the year and then he resigns", but when it actually happens what a kick in the balls.

Luke Fickell, this is your time to shine. It didn't take long to name him interim head coach when this mess came down and they certainly didn't waste any time in naming him interim coach for all of next season. I know it's a very sticky time for this to happen, but Fickell is my pick.

Official Press Release :(
The Ohio State University accepts resignation of Coach Tressel

Luke Fickell to serve as interim for 2011-2012

Columbus, OH – The Ohio State University announced today that it has accepted the resignation of Jim Tressel as head coach of its football program. Luke Fickell will serve as interim head coach for the 2011-2012 football season. Recruitment for a new head coach – which is expected to include external and internal candidates – will not commence until the conclusion of the 2011-2012 season.

“In consultation with the senior leadership of the Board of Trustees, I have been actively reviewing matters attendant to our football program, and I have accepted Coach Tressel’s resignation,” said President E. Gordon Gee. “The University’s enduring public purposes and its tradition of excellence continue to guide our actions.”

Jim Tressel said, “After meeting with University officials, we agreed that it is in the best interest of Ohio State that I resign as head football coach. The appreciation that Ellen and I have for the Buckeye Nation is immeasurable.”

Athletics Director Gene Smith said, “We look forward to refocusing the football program on doing what we do best – representing this extraordinary University and its values on the field, in the classroom, and in life. We look forward to supporting Luke Fickell in his role as our football coach. We have full confidence in his ability to lead our football program.”

I never really believed it would come to this, I thought he would survive it.
Not surprising to me, and it was the right move. I believe (or at least hope) that he lasted this long so that the program could get a successor in place. I also believe (or at least hope) that this move will reduce the NCAA sanctions.

I think he realized that the damage was beyond his going forward as coach and representative for the university. The best move for all.
I am angry at the lynch mob mentality of the media but it is what it is.

Coach Tressel,
Thank you for all that you have done to take Ohio State back in the lime light, and be a top tier programs for many "Repeated years". What ever road you decide to travel, I hope you find happiness, and peace. So sorry for the unpleasant things you had to endure. We ALL make mistakes. Thank you for giving OTHERS a second chance, and letting them move beyond there mishaps. I wish OTHERS could have given you a second chance, but it is not to be. It truely is a sad day. Hope we all can grow from this.
Salute!!!!!

Wow, good luck Coach Tressel thanks for the memories. While it's obvious that he has made mistakes, this is another instance of media frenzy. It's a shame that sensationalizing (Mark May) and our society has come to this. Again not about JT, he erred, but the media is way overplaying things.

Good luck Coach Fickell, here is your chance to shine.
