Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

It's pretty clear this investigation is the beginning of the end for Tressel.

If anything you could argue the opposite. The stance of Gee and Smith were made very clear when this whole investigation began. Unless there is more to the investigation, the only way I see Tressel out is by his own will.

How is it "pretty clear"?

It's just speculation on my part b/c I don't have any inside info so maybe I should have phrased what I said differently.

But I think the NCAA is going to hammer Tressel. I think tOSU will at the least have to vacate the regular season victories from last year. And I also think there's a good chance they become post season ineligible for a year or 2. I don't think they extend the suspension b/c ~40% of the season is already a pretty serious suspension, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Those are very serious penalties. Coaches almost never survive these kind of things, at least at the school they work for at the time of the penalty. I don't think he will be immediately fired no matter what the penalty, but I do think b/c of all this and his age and all the rumors he wasn't going to be a Paterno-style lifer, there's a good chance he's gone after the 2011 season, and I think there's almost no chance he's the head coach to start the 2013 season.

Obviously, I could be wrong. I hope I am.

Here's my 2 cents on JT

JT, went 7-5 his first year as head coach. Including that sloooow start, his record at tOSU is 106-22. JT is 9-1 against Michigan, and we contend for the national title most years.

We have been a solid top five program during JT's tenure. After watching the Spring Game, I think the program is in great shape, other than Offensive Line depth. JT represents both, the University and the state very well.

JT has turned the football program's academic situation around, from being an embarrassment, to being a source of pride for the school. Rarely, do JT recruits fail to qualify. The graduation rates are up, and a ton of the players carry GPAs over 3.0. Somewhere there is a thread on that, most top five programs can't make the above claims.

Finally, 35,000 kids play high school football in Ohio every fall. I can't give you solid numbers, but trust me, most have grown up Buckeye fans. When JT took over, today's high school sophomores, were five, and six years old.

A few years ago, a damaged spinal cord stopped me from going to the top high school games in NE Ohio. Near the end, it was cool, the stands on one side of the field were filled with fans wearing the high school's colors, and scarlet and gray. The other side of the field, those stands were filled with their high school's colors, and scarlet and gray. IMHO, JT also had a bit to do with that:).

Hey Buckeye fans. Nebraska fan here looking for your take on the NCAA allegations. Stewart Mandel thinks Tressel has to be gone. What do you guys think? Is the NCAA going to play hard ball?

I see someone earlier mentioned Gruden and Urban Meyer. I think Meyer is a likely candidate for you. Not sure about Gruden.

I would really like to see the Buckeyes at full strength when you visit Lincoln, and that includes Jim Tressel. Win, lose or draw, that will be a heck of a game.

The concern isn't whether Mandel has any say, it's whether he's correctly analyzing the situation.

I think the point is that none of us know. Mandel might be correct...and maybe not. If the NCAA is going to come down hard on JT, then the writing is probably on the wall...if not 2011, then 2012 as LordJeffBuck has suggested. Woeful decision making from a guy that has been such a high character guy.

Gee and Smith gave their support to Tressel and laid everything on the table to investigors. Barring any new violiations, which there weren't in this notice, Tressel is fine.

Basically, everything is the exact same as it was yesterday except there is a hearing date of 8/12. Stewie is grabbing web hits with his headline. That is it.

My take is that I am disappointed in Jim Tressel. I think he is a very good man and a great coach who has done some bad things that are really going to hurt the university and his program. My personal preference is that he and the program take their medicine, and he keep doing what he has been doing. But I believe that it will not be possible for him to hang around. I think the NCAA is going to come down like the wrath of God. The notice of allegations says, "Jim Tressel failed to deport himself in accordance with the honesty and integrity normally associated with the conduct and administration of inter-collegiate athletics..." Dez Bryant, a player, lost his season for lying to the NCAA. I gotta believe that more is expected of a coach - and should be - therefore the penalties are going to be harsh. My hope is that they are harsh on the coach and not as much so on the program.
