Jim Tressel (National Champion, ex-President, Youngstown State University, CFB HOF)

heres to a few more of the bandwagoners/fair weather fans falling off after this bump in the road.

for those of you who don't get how college football works. super jesus and his gators lost 4 games 2 years ago before their current run. tOSU has a long way to go to be where i think we all want them to be. but ALL teams go through this. my god, we won 16 conference road games in a row.

oh and the last time we had a team this young was 2004...

we win out and we win the big 10 title. the nc was out of reach the second the usc game ended. NOTHING has changed.

this game is comparable to a USC losing to Stanford from several years ago...even the mainstream media has at least given tOSU some credit for losing to teams they weren't expected to beat, or at least very good teams.

This was an AWFUL loss to a 1-5 team. How they're 1-5 is a bit mind-boggling but nonetheless, a very bad loss and one that doesn't hold water with the current national perception of tOSU handling the bad/average teams, but losing the big one.

And this team did have a very real chance of making a National Championship run. This is their most aggressive defense since 2002 and people have been noticing. The whispers had begun about potentially seeing tOSU in the championship game if a few breaks went their way (USC losing again, Va Tech losing).....its a moot point now, and maybe this team just isn't that good....but IMO, it's tough to judge how good a team really is when they turn it over 5 times.

To Lloyd Carr's back-sliding "country club" squad, no less. UM would have hung 50 on them if Hart doesn't catch an exceptionally rare case of fumbliitis.

Wait...wait...how did UM beat UF, yet JT's wins against Lloyd don't count as big games because UM under Carr wasn't that great?

I think I'm gonna be sick.

Haven't you heard? Tressel doesn't get credit for beating UM anymore because the porgram down. I mean, it's not like he had anything to do with that, right? Of course, of course... We're tired of him just beating UM every season...

As for this loss, I thought it might be a tight game because Purdue always plays OSU close, but I was very surprised at the way the team played as a whole for a Tressel team. Very uncharacteristic. THey did show fight as well at the end though, so that's good, but I have to admit I am concerned about the lack of development. I saw some, and then all of a sudden it went in reverse...

There's also a lot of heat for Tressel not sitting Pryor after what he did to Boeckman (supposedly selling his sole to Block O...which sounds like an awesome conspiracy internet movie...), but really I don't see how anybody else could do better. Bauserman is probably a better passer, but he'd be killed behind this line that used to be a good pass protecting unit and now isn't. They should be running more, but it feels like Tressel is really trying to get Pryor a lot of reps, even if he's not doing well. I'm hoping this turns out like Troy, but there are noticable differences.

I get your sarcasm and you might have a point, but schedule bashing when it comes to traditional programs that are down goes both ways. Should Florida get more credit for beating Florida State because they are a traditional power? Is beating Nebraska, a traditional power, worth more than beating a 11-1 Kentucky, a traditional doormat?

and if texas had lost twice, and if uc had lost and if boise had lost and if florida had lost twice and if bama had lost twice and if... blah blah blah. dude, 2007 is a once in a lifetime scenario. that actually doesn't happen every year.

as jwinslow noted, that 2007 florida team got absolutely dominated by a shitty scum team. a big 10 title would be one heck of an achievement for this team. are tOSU fans the only fans on the planet that don't consider their conference title an achievement to be proud of?

meh...not really true. 1 loss tOSU goes ahead of undefated UC and Boise. A rematch of the SEC title game isn't likely. Va Tech lost today. It would have taken some breaks, but definately a possibility...2007 proves that.

And this should have been our first loss anyways...USC was owned in Columbus. The offense couldn't produce when given opportunity after opportunity.

I would be happy with a Big 10 title, but you are wrong about your assesment of our chances had we won out. Texas, USC and Florida all came close to losing or going to overtime today. Virginia Tech did lose. Do you really think Boise State would get into the championship over a 1 loss big ten team? There is still a lot of football to be played. At this point I would be suprised to see either Florida or Texas in the championship game. Even Alabama has its flaws...

Situations like 2007 happen more than some people remember.
