Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

Re: the player's opinion.

I was like Spitler in that I always felt, "When you look good, you feel good, you play good (well? :p)."

So, I don't know. Whatever. I don't like them, but kickoff is 4 days away and there's bigger things to worry about.

No, it most certainly is about selling jerseys...Nike simply underestimated our fan base's loyalty to tradition. If it were truly a tribute to the 1954 team, then the jerseys would've looked like the 1945 jerseys, not the elementary school Microsoft Paint designed jersey we have for The Game. I wouldn't wear one if you gave it to me free...seriously.

I don't think they underestimated, otherwise we would already have been wearing crap uniforms for a couple of years. This is a foot in the door technique - If the players really dig these unis, we will see them adapted next year. Probably to something close to what we have now, but with the way the material stitches together, a lot of the details will have to be changed, like the pant stripes, and shoulder areas, for example. But no one should believe that this is really a one and done for the pro combat uniform.

TSUN week. One team. Buckeye unity.

Oy, he's on to something here. I don't give a fuck what you look like this week. As long as you sport scarlet and gray and exhale "FUCK _ICHIGAN" than you're alright with me.

After we beat them by 4 touchdowns, then I'll clown the mess outta ya

i think we should just forget about what we are going to wear for The Game.
It's the same exact team on the field with the same exact players. it doesnt matter what the [censored] they wear as long as the beat scUM's asses to the ground.
so for all of you that are freaking out about this abomination nike calls a jersey, you better forget about what the hell we wear on the field.
heck i wouldnt give a [censored] if we wore tootoos and tights out there and still kill michigan.
just accept the fact that we arent wearing a traditional uniform against our arch rivals

this game is when the team should come together and prove they are the best damn team in the land, not the most stylish

I wish it were more like the 54 uni's as well but complaining about it isn't going to change it, unfortunately. =/

You're probably right, but I'm not about to go quietly into that good night. I went to the OSU Athletic Department website, looked up Gene Smith's e-mail and fired this off:

Dear Mr. Smith,
Please explain to me how white helmets and Oregon ugly jerseys and pants are "a tribute" to the 1954 National Champs. The design idea appears to be something along the lines of Flash Gordon Goes Buckeye. Let's be honest here, the only paying of tribute that this uniform pays is a tribute to Phil Knight and the corporate greed of Nike Inc.
Why, when brand identification is something most institutions strive for, is Ohio State forsaking an iconic uniform that has instant public identity?
This is clearly a case of the tail wagging the dog. The traditions of Ohio State football are being turned over to the tailor.
