Jersey / Uniform Discussion (OSU)

I think I will reserve judgment until I see the uniform on someone. I agree that the shoulders in white stitching would have been better.

Here's what I like about it. We have a tradition. 1954 was a championship year. Woody's teams had certain values and those values, that tradition, is still in this team.

On the other side of the field...well, another story, isn't it?

The white helmets did have numbers at one point, but not in 54.

That's because the 54 helmet was gray. I was there I saw it with my own two eyes.

I think the confusion comes from Sports Illustrated and a portrait they did of Hop carrying the ball in 54 for a Heisman cover they ran. The artist didn't bother to make the helmet gray, cause, shit, who in New York knew?

From TeddyHeisman on BSB:

Wow! That sucks. I think Jimmy Stewart wore something like this while playing for Bedford Falls.

I think that we need to flood the athletic department with strongly worded emails, so that they know this is not acceptable. If nobody makes a big stink, we can be sure that these will quietly replace our current unis next year.

I like it a lot. Not too much "throwback" vibe going on with the exception of the helmet which doesn't even represent the '54 team. If they truly were going to do a throwback uni, why wouldn't Nike go with something like they did for the Ducks??

In short, because Phil Knight cares enough about Oregon's tradition to see to it that it's done right. Nobody at Nike gives two shits about Ohio State's tradition and therefore don't care if they get it right here.

IMO, the Oregon throwbacks are tasteful and accurate. Unfortunately, Oregon is stuck with the new unis, as a result of being owned by Nike. Next year, they will be known as the Nike University of Oregon.
